Best take so far of the limitless series of posts announcing the dawn of the AIA on my feed 🤣
🥁🥁 The final, official version of the #AIAct has just been published in the #OJEU (Official Journal of the EU) 🥁🥁 This means it will enter into force in 20 days' time and begin applying in phases after that: banning prohibited AI from 2 February 2025, starting to apply to GPAI models from 2 August 2025, and applying (mostly) in full to everything else from 2 August 2026. Link here and final text below: https://lnkd.in/eAJwqHBm and text below. Kudos to Digiphile Side-Loading Lawyer (Senior Consultant) Michael Brown for spotting this news just before the weekend.

This is an important question!
If you train an AI model with copyrighted works licensed under Creative Commons ShareAlike? Is your trained model and curated datasets then ShareAlike as well? And what about AI output generated with your AI model? Also ShareAlike? Here Kacper Szkalej and I provide answers - and strategies for the CC community to ensure that ShareAlike conditions survive in the era of GenAI (from memorization issues to licensing chains): https://lnkd.in/dB_fKMC6 #copyright #AI #creativecommons #genAI

A tremendous line up - that unusual thing, a law book that looks like a good browse.
It’s not every year that you can help put together a book featuring contributions from some of the most renowned experts and your own personal heroes in EU data protection law. Making the experience even more enjoyable is the fact that the final product is freely available online. There are a lot of people to thank for making this possible, so please bear with me. after a late start, remarkable how fast it's becoming apparent that the GDPR and AI ( not just genAI) are technically incompatible. what courts will do about this is more difficult to predict
🚨 noyb has filed 11 complaints against Meta to prevent the abuse of people's personal data for artificial intelligence! 👉 We urgently request the data protection authorities to launch an urgency procedure and immediately stop the company's move! 📰 Background: Over the past few days, Meta has informed millions of Europeans that its privacy policy is changing once again 👉 Only on closer inspection of the links in the notification did it become clear that the company plans to use years of personal posts, private images or online tracking data for an undefined "AI technology" that can ingest personal data from any source and share any information with undefined "third parties". 👉 Instead of asking users for their consent (opt-in), Meta argues that it has a legitimate interest that overrides the fundamental right to data protection and privacy of European users. 👉 Once their data in the system, users seem to have no option of ever having it removed ("right to be forgotten").
