Climate tech startups raised $8.1 billion in the first quarter, near record amounts of money that suggest 2023’s quiet close might have been more of a blip than the sign of a protracted downturn. A deeper look into the $8.1 billion raised in the first quarter shows that investors focused their attention on materials, including green steel and battery materials and minerals. #climatetech #climateVC #climate

Annual investment in carbon capture, utilization and storage could reach $175B by 2035, mostly in hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as cement and steel making, according to a McKinsey report from earlier this year. It predicted this investment would be concentrated in south-east Asia, China, India and North America. #carboncapture #climatetech #climateVC

I don't have pictures of our after-party last night, but it was so fun to hang out with my Seattle friends. They are some of the kindest/most welcoming people I have met. The cherry on top was trading notes with Jonathan Azoff on community (he is the undisputable pro) and branding! 💚 #BBGGreenFestival #PNWClimateWeek #Seattle

Great piece by Shely Aronov! "I believe Climate Inc. often means trying to convince corporations to pay for things that don’t benefit their bottom line. That’s why many climate startups struggle as they look for revenues: Corporations want concrete benefits, not the more diffuse value of helping the planet. Over-indexing on sustainability helps founders raise capital from climate investors, but they are the only group willing to allocate capital to the cause." I would just add that savvy climate tech VCs are definitely investing in startups that make wide commercial adoption & customer obsession key tenets while building their companies. #climatetech #climateVC #startups
We need to talk about Climate Inc.
