"You don't work as hard as your founders." True. At least not the best ones. As far as non-founders go, still putting the pedal down. Sunday team events, 8am to 8pm during the week. Thursday was a little embarrassing, I actually had time to catch up on email. The horror. "Burnout doesn't come from hard work, it comes from lack of meaning in your work."

I have room in my budget to hire someone. Normally I would write a job description and look for a specific set of skills. But what if instead, the only criteria was 'someone magical' -- someone who will figure it out whatever the task, someone like our founders: ambitious, self-reliant, creative, optimistic, hard-working, and had the ability to build and/or sell with a real bias toward action. I wonder who people would recommend if there was no actual job title or scope of work.

When a GP at another fund asks me to take an intro, 95% of the time it's not a fit and way too far along for Antler, but I almost always say yes to the meeting. None of my peers in the industry seem to do this. When it's not a fit, they're ruthless with their time and say no. I take the meetings for 3 reasons; 1) Golden rule. I'm the kind of person who asks for what they want, so I always try to do a favor when it's asked of me. Solid social capital, 2) Relationships compound. I've met more great people as second and third order effects than any other source--you never know where the overlaps and value will come from. 3) Most everyone misunderstands Antler, and every single interaction is an opportunity to compound our story--both in response to the ask, and in the 5-10 minutes it takes to have a call. I'm curious of my network -- do you always take the meeting when the intro path has a high degree of credibility, or are you ruthless with your calendar regardless of where the ask comes from?

I was fortunate to lead a breakout session at the 2024 Innovation Forum in Seoul, South Korea last week. It looks like I was only talking to one person, but I assure you it was a much bigger lecture hall! I learned that Seoul is an incredibly vibrant ecosystem with over $8B being invested into startups each year, and from the startups I met, it became very clear that South Korea is home to exceptionally talented builders working on truly global problems. It was an honor to be included and to meet Jungwook Lim in person. The entire team came away incredibly impressed with the work Jiho Kang, Gabriel (Sa-Eun) Jung, and JaeHee Chang are doing and the community and companies they are building! h/t Peter Walker - I borrowed a couple graphics for the talk, the response was great, and we might need to update to a global purview for Antler's 30 cities around the world! #vc #innovation #founders Antler
