Craig Forman’s Post

One of the oddest and most dangerous ‘dividends’ arising from the hypergrowth of Artificial Intelligence is the rise of what policy expert Jamie Neikrie and I call ‘Artificial History.’ We wrote up a piece for Tech Policy Press about the ability for generative AI to create highly credible but entirely fictional synthetic history. Now, bad actors have the ability to arm their claims with retroactive points of evidence spun out of fake first-hand accounts, on-the-ground testimony, or deepfake trusted messengers. If you can rewrite the narrative of where we come from, you can make a different argument about where we should be going. See more here: https://lnkd.in/eqxTQvae

Thoughtful piece, Craig Forman. When I attended the NVIDIA conference this spring, I was blown away by the intensity of work on video. I don't hold much with conspiracy theories, but I came away from the conference convinced that within a year we should *assume* every piece of video has been manipulated and need to be "convinced" that it's real -- instead of the other way around. Kind of a frightening scenario for any video journalism. Now I think that timeline might have been too generous.

This is by far the scariest and most dystopian thing I’ve read in a while.
