🇺🇸 In the spirit of Independence Day, sharing the Hall of Fame of bad advice I've ignored … 💰 Financial Planner: "Kids have a negative ROI. You shouldn't have them."  ✅ I have four kids. The ROI: infinite. I fired the planner. 🫠 Legal Recruiter: "You're not tech enough. Even if I introduce you to tech clients, they won't hire you." ✅ Three months later, I was product counsel for Alexa at Amazon. After that, general counsel of a $100M revenue Series D tech company. Most recruiters are wonderful. Not that one. 🤓 Venture Investor: "You have to train your own model to make a good AI product." ✅ At GC AI today, we apply proprietary techniques and software to the latest foundation models. Over a thousand attorneys use the product, and people love it. We'll train a model at some point. Spoiler: that investor didn't make the cut. 🚶♀️10th Grade History Teacher: "People are throwing around the B word about you. Maybe be less competitive and don't do so well; you intimidate the boys." ✅ Even 15-year-old me knew this was ridiculous. Happy Fourth of July! Enjoy pie and red, white, and blue items from Old Navy. Personal fave: the star-spangled tank top. PS - pictures are from last year’s Fourth of July parade in Santa Cruz County, California (Aptos). It’s campy and incredibly fun. PPS - for the detail noticers: the last car with the cool license plate is of supervisor Zach Friend, who leads in municipal AI and put out a great model AI policy last year. So, broadly on the AI theme! #LegalAI #CareerAdvice #InHouseCounsel #JulyFourth

Don't you just love that bad advice? 😂 The "be less competitive" part is crazy. You and I would have been 15 year old besties. Advice like this makes me know I wouldn't have made it in a 1950s society. Because did you just ask me to be less competitive with boys? As if I'm thinking about them when I'm out here shining. Or were you asking for the boys to step their game up to me? I think you meant the latter! 😂 "less competitive" for what??? 😂😂😂 Great post. Not a mom of 4 but close with 3. And, the ROI is priceless. Even though I was also told not to have kids AND be a lawyer or at least wait and maybe only have 1. I don't live by other people's limitations...............

LOL hilarious...but seriously this is a great reminder to have the courage to believe in yourself...there will always be people who say you're not good enough, you're not smart enough, you're not _____ fill in the blank...but it's up to you to decide what you do with that advice....👏🏻well said and done Cecilia Ziniti.

I love this! Thanks for sharing! Crazy that someone would tell you not to have kids for financial reasons. 🙄

No!! the financial planner didn't!!! Good on you to fire them immediately!! And to think what would have happened if you had dimmed your light at 10th grade to make boys feel less intimidated! Oh dear!! 🙄

That's some pretty stiff competition for worst advice. 😂 I can't decide if gold should go to the financial planner or the 10th grade teacher.

If you ever run into that history teacher tell them you went full b word: business 👩🏻💼

That 10th grade teacher!!??!! Sadly, my teenage daughter gets similar messages...still. So glad you didn't follow that advice. I'll keep reminding my kiddo to do the same.

If everyone swam with the current we would only ever get exactly what we all predict. Unique and invaluable outcomes would never occur. Cecilia Ziniti, keep it up!
