Mobilising community members to become changemakers is essential for advancing human rights in cocoa-growing communities. This is why we have supported the creation of Community Child Protection Committees. These Committees raise awareness about rights within the community, actively monitor children at risk of child labour and help community members get the support they need. Ensuring human rights are respected in cocoa-growing communities is a common responsibility. Farmers, industry stakeholders, civil society, authorities, and governments, all have a role to play. And we achieve more when we work together. At the community level, Community Child Protection Committees work closely with national and regional authorities to identify children at risk of child labour and help community members get the support they need. The Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) has launched an online, interactive dashboard to monitor the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Queensland’s child protection system. The disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people is a pervasive feature of statutory child protection systems across all jurisdictions in Australia. The QFCC dashboard presents an in-depth, rights-based analysis of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle (ATSICPP) implementation across the system drawing on state and regional data. Making this data available to the community and services enhances accountability and transparency concerning how over-representation is monitored. https://lnkd.in/e_4q4Hqt

Innovative change leaders are trying to use the workforce crisis in child welfare as an oppotunity to look at their systems more holistically. This brief is full of examples of what they are trying and learning.
Senior Advisor for Child Welfare Policy, Casey Family Programs. Former Commissioner, NYC/ACS and NYS/OTDA. Former Acting Assistant Secretary, HHS/ACF. Opinions expressed are my own.
Almost all child protection agencies are dealing with significant workforce challenges. This new publication illustrates some of the ways that agencies around the country are assessing and better meeting the needs of their staff — and identifying opportunities to transform organizational cultures and rethink service delivery to children and families. https://lnkd.in/e5fSh5g6

Why am I voting yes? Because our constitution is misrepresenting history by not. And because I have seen enough of the child protection system to know that we continue to create policies as the “experts” that continue to make things worse for all families but especially Aboriginal families in South Australia. When we listen and incorporate Aboriginal practices like family led decision making including Family Group Conferencing we see positive outcomes. This can translate to all policies and what creates positive change for Aboriginal families also works for non-Aboriginal families. #yes23

Are our child protection systems ok for undocumented children too? We wrote to the European Commission in response to a consultation and call for evidence on integrated child protection systems, where we pinpoint 7 key elements these systems must have to protect undocumented children too. Here's a quick recap: ⭐ When assessing a person's age, apply the presumption of minority and benefit of the doubt when unclear. ⭐ Treat all children as children first and foremost. ⭐ Resolve the residence status of children in care. ⭐ Provide trauma-informed care and support. ⭐ Make child protection services accessible where migrant children are. ⭐ Train staff and provide access to information, administrative support, and legal aid. ⭐ Put the best interests of the child at the centre of child protection systems. 📚 Read more in our full submission: https://lnkd.in/eVrCncZH #children #migration #humanrights
