Function naming is tricky. You need them to be clear and concise. But sometimes, they just make you go 😒 Like: - `convert` - convert what 🤔? - `process` - can I be more vague 🤷♂️? - `handle` - handle what exactly 👀? Good intentions, bad execution. So what can you do differently? 1) Be specific - `convert_to_csv` - unambiguous - `process_customer_order` - tells us the intent - `handle_error` - what error🧐? 2) Use active verbs - `generate_report` - takes action - `validate_email_address` - asserts something - `delete_user_account` - removes a thing - `calculate_moving_average` - performs an action Spend a little extra time naming functions and you'll save yourself headaches later. #softwareengineer #webdevelopment #coding

Every developer needs to know these essential rules . . . You should know some fundamental coding rules: - DRY: Don't repeat yourself. Avoid code duplication. - YAGNI: You Aren't Gonna Need It. Don't add unnecessary features. - LOD: Law of Demeter. Limit interactions between objects to immediate neighbors. - SOC: Separation of Concerns. Keep presentation, logic, and data separate for maintainability. - SOLID: Promote good design practices for maintainable, scalable, modular software. - DYC: Don't yell code. Document your code with clear comments. Which coding rule do you find most challenging to implement? Share your thoughts below. I hope these tips help you. Like & Repost if you find them helpful. A big advantage of Rails over other frameworks is that it values convention over configuration. If you follow the correct conventions, you can avoid lengthy configuration of files, and things just work! Therefore, you spend less time writing boring config files and more time focusing on business logic. #Rubyonrailsdevlopment #webdevelopment #fullstackdevelopment #promminglanguage #coding #development #softwaredevelopment . To each his own but I disagree with take on comments here. In my experience in many cases the next person to read your code may not be a coder! But they need to figure out what is going on. But agree about how notebooks can obfuscate or gum up the works over scripts (but are great for tutorials and demos - and by forcing you to code in cells do at least nudge toward some level of modularity which is good) and if your not going to comment/document at least keep it as modular as possible: “Readable code. Why? It’s self documenting. To be self documenting, code needs to be relatively simple and modular. The biggest mistake beginners make in writing code is lack of modularity. Without modularity, it’s impossible to build code bottom up, testing as you go. It’s really hard to debug a huge program. It’s really easy to debug modules built up piece by piece on top of already-tested modules.”

I just published "Mastering Clean Functions: 10 Practices for Elegance in Code ✨" Here are a couple of key takeaways: 1️⃣ Small is Beautiful: Keep your functions small, with a clear and singular purpose. Small functions are not just easier to understand but also a breeze to test and maintain. 🌱 2️⃣ Meaningful Naming Matters: Choosing names that convey the purpose of your function enhances code readability. A well-named function serves as documentation, reducing the need for extensive comments. 🔤 #coding #codingbestpractices #functionalprogramming #cleancode #softwareengineerjobs #softwaredevelopment #softwareengineering

"Any fool can write code that a computer can understand. Good programmers write code that humans can understand." Writing code that is clear and maintainable is a hallmark of a good programmer. Here are a few key principles: Clarity: Use meaningful names and well-structured functions. Self-Documenting: Code should explain itself, reducing the need for comments. Simplicity: Keep solutions straightforward to minimize errors. Consistency: Maintain a uniform style for easier collaboration. Refactoring: Regularly improve code to enhance readability. Principles: (where applicable) Follow coding principles like SOLID and DRY for maintainability. By focusing on these aspects, we can write code that not only works but is also a pleasure for others to read and maintain. #CleanCode #SoftwareDevelopment #CodingPrinciples
