Reporting to the SVP , Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President – Controller is responsible for directing the company’s accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and other advisory and regulatory organizations. Will also ensure that the company has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and personnel in place to grow the company effectively and efficiently.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Oversees the daily accounting operations, including functional responsibilities for all general ledger activities, balancing and reconcilements, and financial reporting. Reviews and ensure the application of appropriate internal controls, regulatory compliance, and financial procedures.
  • Oversees and ensures the efficient operation of the Accounts Payable, Prepaids, Accruals, Fixed Assets, and Procurement functions, including but not limited to making strategic recommendations for ongoing improvements, implementing processes, enforcing policies, and monitoring internal controls.
  • Creates and implements policies, procedures, and processes as deemed appropriate. Implements the company’s fiscal plans and policies, ensuring the accounting procedures comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to the accounting team. Ensures the proper functioning of all systems, databases, and financial software. Identifies, acquires, and implements systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information, automate processes, and increase working efficiency
  • Oversees the month-end and year-end close processes, continuously reviewing processes and procedures while eliminating inefficiencies. Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; manage preparation and support of annual external audits regarding financial documents
  • Continuously improves accounting functions to streamline processes. Identify risks, assess mitigating controls, and make recommendations on improving the control environment. Stays abreast of changes in regulatory requirements relevant to the industry and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Partners with senior management to evaluate strategic initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and other business opportunities from a financial perspective. Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and drive long-term growth.
  • Serves as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, board of directors, auditors, regulators, and other relevant parties. Communicate financial results, insights, and recommendations effectively and transparently.


Minimum Qualifications:


Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Master's degree preferred.

Certification: An active and valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in an accounting position with extensive experience in audit, operations, or banking, with at least 3 years in leadership. Financial Services experience preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including a strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Strong financial systems expertise with proficiency in using technology to drive operational efficiency.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • The ability to identify trends and make strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in reporting and compliance.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Our company offers a dynamic hybrid work arrangement, which requires three days of on-site work, in the Sugar Land, TX office.
