Position: Vice President, Medical Affairs – California Market


Overall Purpose:


The Vice President, Medical Affairs is a physician leader that collaborates with the team to establish and drive the strategic direction and priorities for the California market. The primary objective will be to enhance the quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare delivery in our market. This role will provide leadership in clinical initiatives aimed at improving patient services, quality and safety outcomes, physician alignment and satisfaction, and implementing evidence-based programs, practices, and activities that deliver exceptional quality, service, and financial results.


The Vice President is responsible for:

  • Medical oversight of all aspects of clinical care for the organization’s medical group, its IPA network and medical management teams.
  • Leading the organization in advancing its mission to transform the delivery of primary care by partnering with payers and providers to drive improvements in the quality and cost of care for every P3 California patient.
  • Developing and managing disease management programs to improve patient quality of life and manage healthcare costs.
  • Act as the public facing and trusted representative of P3 to the medical community.
  • Fulfill duties and responsibilities of the Market President in his/her absence.


Position Location:

This position is based at our P3 Health Partner California office in Stockton, California, and will travel throughout the area to work with P3 staff and provider networks. Will consider remote candidates who live in the state of California.


Stockton, California is nestled in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, and boasts a thriving economy with diverse industries, including agriculture, healthcare, education, and technology. Its proximity to major cities like San Francisco and Sacramento provides access to a broader range of entertainment and cultural experiences. Stockton's lower cost of living, compared to nearby metropolitan areas, combined with the sunny California weather. The city's rich cultural diversity, numerous parks, and vibrant community events make it a welcoming and family-friendly environment. Its strategic location along the San Joaquin Delta also offers a plethora of outdoor recreational activities, including boating, fishing, and hiking, making Stockton an ideal place for both work and play.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited school.
  • Board certification is required.
  • Must be licensed in California or obtain a license prior to start date.
  • Advanced training in healthcare administration is preferred (e.g., MHA, MBA, MMM, MPH).
  • A minimum of ten years of experience practicing primary care
  • A minimum of five years practicing in a managed care or population health environment.
  • At least three years of experience in medical leadership.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems effectively.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in negotiating and handling conflict resolutions.
  • Skilled in training and educating staff at all levels, including executives and providers, and demonstrating effective collaboration skills.
  • Knowledgeable of contemporary practice issues within medicine and experienced in outcomes measurement of clinical quality and utilization.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of medical group operations.
  • Note: In addition to the qualifications mentioned above, the ideal candidate should possess strong leadership qualities, effective communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in healthcare delivery. The ability to adapt to a dynamic and rapidly evolving healthcare environment is essential.

Pay range: $270,000-350,000 + bonus, equity and rich benefits plan
