Responsibilities are basic and routine in nature. This may include performing administrative duties in an office, assisting in a research laboratory, aid faculty/staff in supporting academic programs or patient care. Duties will be clear and direct. The Student Assistant will require excellent customer service and strong organizational skills and will represent the department and the university with the highest degree of integrity applying OSU mission and shared values.

Job Description Summary

Functions as a Student Research Assistant to provide support of daily operations in a research laboratory within the {Name of Department}; assists with research activities under direct supervision; assists with collection of and organizes research data; prepares media, solutions, and reagents for use in experiments; performs and maintains cell cultures; conducts library research; washes glassware used in laboratory; autoclaves (sterilizes) glassware, tools and equipment as needed; assists with inventory and maintenance of research supplies;

Essential Duties

60% Assists with research activities under direct supervision; prepares media, solutions, and reagents for use in experiments; performs and maintains cell cultures; collects and prepares documentation; assists with collection of and organizes research data;

25% Conducts library research; copies and files relevant research articles for future reference by research staff; collects and prepares documentation.

15% Washes glassware used in laboratory; autoclaves (sterilizes) glassware, tools and equipment as needed; assists with inventory and maintenance of research supplies; arranges, cleans and maintains lab equipment; perform other duties in support of research.

Minimum Education And Skills/Experience Required/Desired

High School Graduate or equivalency required; must be enrolled in a degree-granting program at OSU; knowledge and understanding of biology, chemistry and basic science research techniques and equipment desired. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
