SUMMARY: The Strength and Conditioning Specialist will partner with the Coordinator of Athletic Performance to support efforts to sustain a comprehensive Performance Training Program. This program will include, but not be limited to: strength training; speed and agility training; nutritional training; conditioning; flexibility; as well as rest, recovery and sleep education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  • The following duties will be conducted in collaboration with the Coordinator of Athletic Performance:
    • Identify and address performance needs
    • Develop and sustain appropriate Performance Training Program for each sport
  • Keep accurate student-athlete performance records as needed.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment to insure a healthy and safe environment for training.
  • Maintain supplies necessary to support the Performance Training Program.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Trainers to prevent injuries and rehabilitate injured student-athletes for safe Return to Play.
  • Keep informed of current research and trends in all areas of Performance Training to maintain the highest level of program for student-athletes.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Athletic Performance in the following areas:
    • Preparation of literature/guidance for student-athletes and coaches.
    • Establish protocols so that program workouts are conducted in an efficient and safe manner while also maximizing training results.
    • Supervise student-athletes while in the Performance Training Program.
    • Support the efforts of the Child Nutrition Departments of the district to encourage proper nutrition for student athletes.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • CSCCA, NSCA, or USA Weightlifting Certification
  • Experience working with multiple sports in strength/conditioning programs at the high school or university level.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrates strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees. Ability to listen effectively. Relational skills to advance Performance Training Program by working with Administrators, Coaches, Trainers, and student athletes. Organizational skills to facilitate program goals with large groups of student-athletes along with a wide-variety of athletic programs. High character to serve as a role model for students-athletes and peer to other leaders in the Athletic Department.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language. Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff, and students

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to collect, organize, and interpret data, define problems, and draw valid conclusions

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver’s license in good standing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods; using keyboarding skills, working on a computer for long periods. Long hours and evening activities are required. Must be able to lift, move, and/or manipulate objects and equipment up to 40 pounds.

Work is performed in a typical training environment and/or office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the training rooms and quiet in the office. Working extra hours in the evening or on weekends may be necessary during certain times of the year.
