Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator serves as a technical expert on systems administration in a large and complex computing environment, and serves as a staff specialist on multiple operating systems and platforms supporting enterprise-wide or large scale computing. The Senior Systems Administrator applies significant professional experience and training in information technology to the most complex assignments requiring development and installation of operating system software, systems programming and modification of operating systems, performance analysis, database maintenance and management, security administration, and management of data storage. The Senior Systems Administrator plays a critical role in the deployment, configuration, security, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of the back-end infrastructure. Under the direction of the IT Manager, the Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. Recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department.

  • Performs troubleshooting as required. Leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.
  • Installing, configuring and maintaining multi-purposed servers and hardware; responding to and planning for service outages.
  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.
  • Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Soboba Casino systems by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities.
  • Configure, install, and troubleshoot centralized network infrastructures such as routers, hubs, switches, etc.
  • Be able to quickly adapt to new situations, have a strong commitment to a team environment, maintain a capacity to work with little supervision, and demonstrate the willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Stay current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for Soboba Casino to take advantage of new technology.
  • Windows 2008R2 & 2012R2 administration and monitoring.
  • Multisite VMware, vSphere & vCenter management and administration.
  • Multisite SAN/NAS storage administration (EMC - Fiber Channel/iSCSI/NAS). Administration of Microsoft Servers (Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, Oracle, Others).
  • Server and network monitoring.
  • Train and mentor other systems administrators.
  • Create manuals and support documentation.
  • Must be physically present to work a regular, reliable, and predictable work schedule in accordance with business demands, and maintain a consistent and regular attendance record.

    • Education / Qualifications
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a related field, required.
    • Minimum 3-years’ experience, required.
    • Any combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of systems administration experience.
    • Experience working with VMware and Windows in a large enterprise environment is necessary.
    • Knowledge of and experience with PowerCLI, vCO, or other automating tools is essential to this role.
    • Must possess working knowledge of Windows scripting including PowerShell, Batch, and VBS.
    • In-depth knowledge of and experience with platform hardware and OS level support, required.
    • Must possess a keen understanding of enterprise class SAN, NAS, and backup technologies.
    • Must have a solid knowledge of load balancing, clustering, and name lookup (DNS) and troubleshooting skills.
    • Requires the ability to diagnose hardware/OS problems and to optimize system setups for complex application environments.
    • The incumbent must be capable of writing proposals, procedures, policies, and technical documentation.
    • Experience with Windows Server is required and Linux preferred (Red Hat Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux a plus).
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with management is necessary.
    • Candidate must be capable of critical thinking and possess the ability to resolve complex problems. However, they should have the ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language.
    • Hardware experience required Dell, Barracuda, Cisco, NetApp, and EMC.
    • Experience in vendor product evaluation (hardware, software, service providers) highly preferred.
    • Must be able to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the United States of America.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Soboba Tribal Gaming Commission license.
    • Required to submit to and obtain negative results on all drug and/or alcohol testing.
