Occupational Summary

The Senior Multimedia Producer in the Office of Strategic Communications (OSC), Duke University School of Medicine, is responsible for telling compelling video stories for strategic priority areas of the school, including for senior leadership. The Senior Multimedia Producer will report to the Assistant Director of Multimedia and Creative, and will create a variety of multimedia and video projects to enhance visual storytelling in the School of Medicine.

Work Performed

Videography and Editing

  • Create compelling, people-driven multimedia stories to support all School of Medicine priority initiatives.
  • Proactively work with SOM faculty and leaders across School of Medicine priorities to identify video opportunities.
  • Film a variety videos of EVP for Health Affairs/Dean, School of Medicine, including announcements, holiday videos, interviews with faculty.
  • Manage video creation from ideation to delivery of ready-to-publish content, including scouting, lighting, filming and editing.
  • Create video assets across a spectrum of styles including but not limited to: research explainers (including animation), documentary, interview, behind-the-scenes, announcements, how-to, etc.
  • Film video components for most feature/news stories created by SOM Office of Strategic Communications office.
  • Pitch original video series ideas (ie. Magnify Magazine, Third Year Student Series, etc.).
  • Visit campus regularly for seasonal or standalone videos and b-roll creation.
  • Create and organize video library of b-roll or stock assets to share across School of Medicine community.
  • Be an expert on video and multimedia trends, including video best practices on social media.
  • Identify stock imagery and music subscriptions needed for videos.
  • Coordinate with University Communications & Marketing and Duke University Health System multimedia teams on strategic visual storytelling projects.
  • Participate in Duke video/multimedia working groups.
  • Attend trainings/learn new software and techniques.
  • Work with teleprompter when necessary.
  • Caption or send videos for captioning.
  • Create videos for different mediums, including in-person events, web/e-newsletter viewing on desktop and mobile, and social media.
  • Travel as needed for video shoots.

Video Content Strategy and Management

  • Participate in video content strategy for EVP for Health Affairs/Dean, School of Medicine.
  • Assist in management of freelance video productions in coordination with Assistant Director, Multimedia & Creative.
  • Provide guidance on use of videography and multimedia assets on websites, social media, etc. to School of Medicine community.
  • Manage School of Medicine YouTube channel. Post and caption videos. Create and organize playlists to maximize engagement.
  • Monitor analytics on YouTube channels and provide quarterly to Assistant Director, Multimedia & Creative.

Photography

  • Capture still photography images, as assigned.

Required Qualifications At This Level

Education/Training

Work requires the ability to perform script writing, video filming and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or a related discipline. Degree or concentration in visual arts preferred.

Experience

Work requires two years of directly related video production experience.

Experience in video production and video editing required. Comfort working for multiple stakeholders in a team setting. Ability to prioritize multiple ongoing projects.

Skills

  • Proficient in video editing and graphic design software, including but not limited Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop
  • Motion graphics and animation skills preferred
  • Drone operation/license a plus

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or a related discipline.

Experience

Work requires two years of directly related writing experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
