Your Impact

Hearst Magazines is looking for a Senior Director, Data Activation & Audience Intelligence to lead the data strategy and execution for our digital publishing business. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that transform raw data into actionable insights, enhancing advertising personalization, pre-sales insights using 1P data assets and empowering data-driven approaches to complex challenges with teams form editorial, product, engineering, marketing, and sales. This person must have a passion for data and insights to optimize audiences, improve advertising performance and ultimately drive revenue growth. This role will also help oversee the data governance, compliance, and privacy policies and practices for our digital business.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Develop and oversee the execution of data activation strategies that optimize audience engagement and retention.
  • Lead a team of data analysts and audience intelligence specialists to analyze data trends and performance metrics across various platforms and channels.
  • Develop and implement data platforms, tools, and processes to enable data collection, integration, analysis, visualization, and activation.
  • Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to inform product, marketing, and sales decisions and strategies.
  • Manage relationships with data vendors and partners, ensuring access to cutting-edge tools and methodologies.
  • Innovate in the field of audience segmentation and targeting to enhance the user experience and increase ad revenues.
  • Advise senior management on emerging data trends and technologies that could impact the digital publishing landscape.
  • Partner with the engineering, product, and security teams to ensure data compliance and privacy with all applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, or data science, preferably in the digital media, publishing, or e-commerce industry.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing data teams and projects, delivering data solutions and insights that drive business outcomes.
  • Expertise in data platforms (DMP, CDP, etc.), tools, and languages, such as SQL, Python, R, AWS, Google Cloud, Snowflake, Tableau, Looker, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, data pipelines, data quality, and data governance.
  • Experience in data activation and audience intelligence, such as segmentation, personalization, targeting, attribution, etc.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills, with the ability to understand and solve business problems using data.

This role requires the position to be located in New York, NY with an in-office presence of 3 days a week.

The base salary for this role is between $163,000 to $196,000 annually. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
