Job Title: Project/Program Manager - Risk Management

Location: NYC/Hybrid (2-3 days on-site)

Compensation Range: $125,000 - $189,000/year plus benefits

Role Type: Long-term consulting with the potential for conversion after 6 months.


Overview: WSN is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program/Project Manager with expertise in Risk Management, coupled with a solid understanding of asset classes and their transactional lifecycles, to place in a role with our client, tier one wholesale bank in NYC.


The successful candidate will lead strategic initiatives aimed at identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across various business units within the bank.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive project management framework, including the development of Project Charters detailing how project execution will be managed.
  • Establish governance frameworks, such as Working Groups, Operating Committees, Steering Committees, and Executive Committees, to provide oversight of project resources, roles, responsibilities (RACI – Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed), and decision-making processes.
  • Lead project initiation (PID – Project Initiation Document) and project planning, including the creation of project plans and reporting templates to communicate project progress, risks, issues, and decisions to governing bodies.
  • Drive project execution to ensure deliverables are met on time and meet quality standards, fostering a culture of accountability and urgency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide thought leadership and expertise in identifying, measuring, and resolving risks and issues, leveraging a deep understanding of asset classes and their transactional lifecycles to facilitate risk identification and management.
  • Mobilize resources and provide oversight to resolve risks and issues, demonstrating leadership and idea generation in developing and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on project management best practices, methodologies, and tools, providing guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders as needed.
  • Demonstrate a track record of success in leading projects from inception to implementation, delivering tangible business outcomes and driving continuous improvement.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced degree and relevant certifications (e.g., FRM, PRM, PMP) preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Project/Program Manager leading risk management initiatives in a wholesale banking environment or similarly regulated industry.
  • Strong expertise in designing and implementing project management frameworks, including Project Charters, governance structures, roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes.
  • Solid understanding of asset classes (Equities, Fixed Income, Listed Derivatives, OTC Derivatives, etc.) and their transactional lifecycles, including trade capture, accounting, clearing, settlement, and post-settlement management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software, as well as Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
