Playground Monitor

Position Title: Playground Monitor

Reports To: Building Principal

Term: 10 month position (work year follows student calendar; August-June)

Work Schedule: Late morning-early afternoon hours, Monday-Friday

Compensation: $13.95/hour

These are part-time positions that work approximately 2.5 hours per day. The District is flexible in how these positions are staffed. While this role is necessary in our schools each day, we are not requiring applicants to commit to a 5-day work week. For example, if an individual only wanted to work 2-3 days per week, we would attempt to find another employee who is also looking for a limited number of days per week to fill the other days. More information about the specific schedule will be provided at time of interview.

Summary

To provide assistance for children during the recess period. This person must supervise children to insure a positive safe environment for children to enjoy recess time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise students at playtime and/or lunchtime and maintains a harmonious atmosphere.
  • Enforce school rules and procedures.
  • Inspect playground equipment and grounds to ensure a safe play area.
  • Report equipment in need of repair to the school principal.
  • Organize group games and activities.
  • Assume responsibility for accessing, storing, and maintaining play equipment (balls, jump ropes..)
  • Direct movement of students to and from playground, lunchroom, and classroom in a safe and organized manner.
  • Assist students in lunchroom clean-up.
  • Assist students in lunchroom to obtain lunch and other necessary items.
  • Provide immediate attention to injured students until school nurse is available.
  • Resolve student conflict by encouraging peaceful resolution of problems.
  • Serve as member of building committees as needed.
  • Report concerns/problems to the attention of building administrators.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises students going to, from and in the lunchroom.

Education And Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous experience working with children and current criminal record and child abuse clearances.

Language Skills

Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Able to write simple correspondence. Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents and other employees of the organization.

Computer Skills

Able to use utilize a computer while desirable, is not required.

Mathematical Skills

Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Able to apply common sense understanding and conflict resolution skills at a level easily comprehended by students.

OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES

Able to work with children. Able to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
