Position Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Technology Operations, this position is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and support of applications and technical infrastructure for IHA. This position serves as a professional level resource and provides analytical and technical expertise and enterprise-wide leadership of all existing and proposed computer technologies for IHA. Utilizes technical skills, sets standards and best practices for multiple hardware and software platforms, types and configurations. Serves as an information resource on product evaluation, selection, deployment and utilization. Participates in planning, design, development, setting direction, implementation and high-end support for server and workstation hardware and software. May serve as a project leader and provides technical guidance, problem resolution and direction to staff.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages servers, workstations and terminals, ensuring reliability, proper operation and integration of these Infrastructure components with existing computer systems.
  • Manages network systems, including routers, firewalls, SD-WAN, LAN and WAN connectivity, VPN, Email, endpoint protection, file/network security and cloud services.
  • Manages network infrastructure, including wired and wireless Ethernet access, remote connectivity and Internet service.
  • Manages telephony infrastructure, including ShoreTel/Mitel phones, switches and servers at all locations, as well as routine maintenance and updates.
  • Manages data storage and databases to include security, data integrity and disaster recovery.
  • Installs and debugs new and/or upgraded software on server and client platforms, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory guidelines, software licensing and system standards.
  • Researches, evaluates, installs, configures, and troubleshoots all hardware, peripherals and equipment necessary to meet integrated systems objectives.
  • Defines and takes proactive steps necessary to avoid problems to minimize or eliminate system downtime, such as applying necessary patches, service packs, program upgrades or configuration changes.
  • Ensures network security, including user permissions, system audits and other security controls are set up and maintained appropriately.
  • Administers, monitors and maintains the performance and reliability of security infrastructure including, but not limited to: establishing and enforcing firewall policies, endpoint protection, installing and configuring servers and network equipment.
  • Troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems.
  • Provides technical support to IHA providers and colleagues as needed.
  • Coordinates with others within the department and outside the department on the implementation and configuration of clinical and non-clinical software, and provides infrastructure support for software managed by IHA or Trinity Health. Develops and maintains working relationships with external IT vendors.
  • Maintains knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment and/or systems.
  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems.
  • Provides recommendations to information technology management for upgrades, improvements, monitoring, and maintenance to maximize uptime and reliability.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation, standards, procedures and network diagrams for production and disaster recovery environments.
  • Collaborates with department and organizational stakeholders to develop and maintain the planning and testing of disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident response.
  • Is available for on-call support during off-hours, accounting to the on-call schedule.
  • Responds to off-hours support and emergency calls within defined SLAs.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as needed.

Essential Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and at least 5 years’ experience.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: Technical Certifications through Cisco, Microsoft, or CompTIA are preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified for working at a level supporting system administration. Healthcare experience preferred.

Position Requirements (abilities & Skills)

  • Prior experience working with networks (SAN), systems engineering and system integration.
  • Knowledge and experience with server hardware, peripherals, software, network operating systems, protocols and administration.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, database management techniques, computer licensure regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of data security and disaster recovery systems and procedures.
  • Ability to support project teams.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of management, physicians, associates and external vendors and customers.
  • Comfortable presenting in large groups, either in-person or virtually.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed in fulfilling assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to analyze problems, determine cause and initiate corrective action.
  • Ability to exercise sound, accurate judgment and timely problem-solving skills, specifically as it relates to recommending alternative solutions and resolving issues.   • Ability to drive to other office/practice sites and meeting and training locations.
  • Successful completion of IHA competency-based program within introductory and training period.

  • Physical activity that often requires keyboarding and phone work.
  • Physical activity that often requires extensive time working on a computer and sitting.
  • Physical activity that sometimes requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, kneeling and/or twisting.
  • Physical activity that sometimes requires lifting, pushing and/or pulling over 20 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face for long periods of time in English.

Minimum Environmental Expectations

This job operates in both an office environment and in a medical facility and occasionally requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital/clinic. It involves frequent interruptions, competing priorities and significant interaction with people which can be stressful at times. This position requires flexibility with days and hours, along with ability to be on-call and travel as needed (including nights and weekends as appropriate).
