Our Opportunity

The laboratory technician is responsible for assisting in all laboratory and field research & development functions, including preparing and testing samples and reporting results to senior researchers. The position offers the opportunity to gain knowledge while working with a variety of materials relevant to the construction industry including cements, polymers, adhesives, and chemical admixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Test physical and acoustic properties of cements, polymers, and adhesives from both field and laboratory preparations, using both ASTM standards and internal test procedures
  • Prepare samples for testing at a range of scales, from laboratory to full room installations. Activities include mixing powders and liquids, pouring, cutting, and polishing
  • Provide physical testing of sound mat and related activities as needed to support sound mat products and sound system development
  • Organize and maintain identification of samples originating from many locations. Record sample preparation and test result data using digital tools
  • Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment and tools. Maintain inventory of standard laboratory supplies
  • Maintain storage systems of laboratory and construction equipment and supplies
  • Gain practical application experience in multiple lab testing areas while assisting in field trials of new and existing products and in on-site technical service

Skills And Experience

  • Technical degree or laboratory experience in a related field
  • Excellent organizational skills and record keeping; completion of sample testing and reports in a timely fashion
  • Clear and timely communication of project status and issues; the ability to multitask and handle changes in priority
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to contribute to team projects; have a collaborative and positive attitude
  • Required software skills are Microsoft Office, and ability to learn lab instrument software
  • Work safely around chemicals, high temperatures, power tools and equipment
  • Ability to lift 80 lbs
