Energetics is seeking an industrial process heating engineer/analyst with experience and knowledge in process heating manufacturing technologies, which may include industrial furnaces and thermal processing equipment.

This is a consulting role, supporting the Department of Energy’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) Cross-Sector Technologies (CST) program. Upcoming activities include strategic planning, analysis, technical advising, and research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) program support.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • as the technical subject matter expert and for industrial process heating.
  • and clearly communicate results of research related to thermal processing applications in industrial sectors to colleagues and clients through formal and informal presentations and written technical communications (reports, white papers, fact sheets, briefings, journal articles, etc.).
  • the planning and management of the Industrial Process Heating RD&D portfolio.
  • and contribute to the strategic plan of federal government technical programs (proposed or in progress) with respect to goals and objectives, implementation plans, and budget allocations.
  • technical information and develop clear planning and summary documents.
  • closely with program managers and other colleagues in a collaborative team environment (diligent and responsive contributor) to advise and consult on industry-relevant demonstration opportunities for decarbonization via thermal processing technologies and processes across related fields and sectors.
  • and track program and project information and milestones, summarize results in draft reports, and analyze global market and technology developments, trends, and statistics (energy, carbon, and economics).
  • the expert liaison between scientists at universities/laboratories and government decision-makers to assist in distilling key technical results and potential impacts from R&D.
  • in person and virtual meetings and workshops with clients and stakeholders, including preparing meeting materials, scheduling meetings, facilitating technical discussions, and summarizing proceedings.
  • clients in the preparation of technical reports required by the agency hierarchy, by Congress, or by the Administration.
  • clients in the preparation of technical materials designed to educate or inform the public and occasionally travel to participate in technical conferences and interact with the technical community.
  • independently or as a member of a team; leading small groups on research projects.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • degree in engineering required (chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar engineering degree). 7 years’ experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5 years’ experience with a Master’s degree required.
  • with IEDO programs and relevant technical topics specifically Cross Sector Technologies / Industrial Process Heating R&D portfolio (refer EERE / IEDO programs website).
  • in product development or application engineering in industrial furnaces, thermal processing equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, combustion equipment); research into operations or new technologies, equipment development and engineering for thermal processing units; industrial process engineering; and analysis of unit operations for improving thermal efficiency.
  • to provide expert consultative services via superb communication skills, strong technical writing skills, and an ability to tailor communications for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • affinity for work in manufacturing, industrial sector decarbonization, and clean energy transition.
  • in Microsoft Office; advanced analytical and Excel skills.
  • ability to excel working on self-managed tasks and as a member of a team; leveraging strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (not required):

  • in the Washington DC area.
  • in government consulting, supporting government organizations, public-private partnerships, or stakeholder engagement.
  • in industrial settings and/or decarbonization of process heating strongly encouraged to apply.
  • in being a thought leader in the space.
  • of energy efficiency or energy management systems in industrial or commercial facilities, including complex enterprise architectures and securing complex enterprise architectures is preferred.
  • or PhD degrees in science and engineering degrees are a plus, but not required.
  • with years of experience greater than the minimum are also encouraged to apply.
  • in running web meeting platforms, e.g., Teams, Zoom, GoToMeeting, WebEx.
  • publications in the field of thermal processing or thermal energy management.
