As a Human Factors Engineer, you will work within project teams to systematically study the interaction between users, the tools they employ, the tasks they perform, and the environments within which they work and play. The insights gained through your user research, using a variety of analytical techniques, will help us develop products that better match the capabilities, limitations, needs, and expectations of the people who use them. Rather than merely critiquing or analyzing the designs of others, you must play an active role in shaping a product vision and generating concepts that accommodate observed use behaviors, satisfy user needs, prevent use errors, and improve the quality of user experience.
Responsibilities
Conduct contextual research, using literature searches, heuristic evaluations of products and interfaces, observational research, and in-context interviews
Coordinate the recruitment of research participants and schedules of research site
Develop protocols for observational research and in-context interviews
Perform workflow and task analysis to identify pain points and understand the potential types and consequences of use errors
Champion the use of low-fidelity mock-ups and form study models to iteratively explore and evaluate concepts and interactions
Develop protocols and conduct Formative and Summative usability studies
Moderate study sessions with a wide range of potential participants
Analyze data from usability studies and communicate findings to clients
Document findings from Formative and Summative Usability Studies in support of 510k and PMA submissions to the FDA for medical devices
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Previous experience designing and conducting user research

You demonstrate high standards of workmanship and attention to detail and can help improve departmental processes and best practices.
You can develop, support, and defend design recommendations based on your experience with design research, ergonomics, and human factors principles
You have a deep understanding of user research methodologies, concepting processes, approaches, and tools, and take the initiative to improve them.
You have established yourself in thought-leadership within the Human Factors community.
