Human Factors Engineer | Air Traffic Control

The successful candidate will provide human factors analysis and strategic program support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), focusing on identifying research, engineering, and technology integration opportunities. Strategic needs will be determined through the human factors analysis of operational concepts, rules/guidance materials, safety event reports, and interactions with FAA stakeholders. The successful candidate will present these work products to team members, clients, and stakeholders.


Potential Work Activities

  • Perform human factors analyses of National Airspace System (NAS) components, flight deck enablers, and planned operational improvements.
  • Analyze aviation safety, operations, and research data to identify human factors trends or patterns within a dataset and recommend potential human factors interventions, mitigations, and tradeoffs.
  • Support development and coordination of documentation needed to plan, execute, and close out air traffic control human factors research, engineering, and development (RE&D) requirements.
  • Develop briefings, reports, videos, data visualizations, and other material to communicate complex information clearly and accurately to an audience of technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Facilitate workshops with field personnel to share and obtain information about potential human factors issues in aviation operations, including air traffic control, flight deck, and maintenance.
  • Implement efficient program management tools and processes.
  • Develop white papers, meeting minutes, and presentations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Engineering, Psychology, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to actively collaborate within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for presenting technical work products.
  • The candidate must be a U.S. citizen who can successfully complete a government security investigation.
  • Ability to support some weekly in-person work in Washington, DC. 


Desired Attributes

  • Advanced degree in Human Factors, Engineering, Psychology, or related discipline.
  • Functional understanding of air traffic control, general aviation, and commercial aviation.
  • Experience working directly with FAA concepts and stakeholders.
