Howard I. Shapiro & Associates, Consulting Engineers P.C. is a highly regarded engineering and expediting firm performing a unique role in the building construction industry. We are a team of 50+ members that is constantly growing.


Since 1989, our firm has provided industry leading expertise in tower crane and mobile crane engineering, demolition engineering, structural alterations, and site safety plans. We work on New York’s most iconic and historic buildings, including the Freedom Tower, WTC Memorial, Hudson Yards, Carnegie Hall, TSX Broadway, the Time Warner Center, 432 Park Ave, the Waldorf Astoria and Yankee Stadium.

This Opportunity


We are currently searching for an Assistant Project Manager to join our expediting team and work with our most important clients and on our highest profile projects. The Department of Transportation and Department of Buildings expediting team that is the interface between our engineers, our clients, project stakeholders and governmental agencies. You will work on some of the most iconic and important development and construction projects in New York City.

  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and other stake holders to manage construction project permitting and logistics to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Manage permit applications with the Department of Transportation and Department of Buildings.
  • Preparing & issuing reports, schedules, and other project-related documents.
  • Keeping track of schedules, budgets, timelines and keeping all parties informed of any changes or adjustments.
  • Coordinate with our engineering teams on our firm’s projects.
  • Implementing new systems and procedures to help the company grow and expand.
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager.
  • Analyze problems in the project approval process and develop immediate resolutions with the Project Manager.
  • Respond to client inquiries and concerns promptly.
  • Identify milestones and problem areas and accordingly recommend preventative actions.



Qualifications:


We are looking for candidates with high emotional intelligence, the ability to forge meaningful relationships, and an ability to navigate diverse stakeholder groups. You should have experience performing under pressure with a strong sense of urgency, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to doing what you say you will do. It is important to be a self-starter and maintain a high sense of urgency and accountability in delivering results in line with project timeframes. We are looking for:


  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from a US university is required.
  • Construction experience is not required but is a plus.
  • Must be willing to make occasional site or client office visits.
  • Must be highly motivated, willing to take on new challenges and able to work with team members and independently.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers and clients.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative partner on a team.
  • Ability to read construction drawings is a plus.

Our office is located in Lynbrook, New York within close walking distance of the LIRR. Our team members commute from all five New York City boroughs and Long Island.
