Director of Engineering

Relate Search has been retained to assist an Industrial Manufacturer in adding an outstanding Director of Engineering to their team. In this pivotal role, you will report directly to the Vice President and be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering department responsible for new product development; ensuring efficiency, excellence, and alignment with organizational goals and deadlines.


Primary Responsibilities:


As the Director of Engineering, your key duties include:


  • Leading and managing multi-disciplinary engineering team, and collaborating with other groups, to achieve project goals.
  • Teaching and developing junior engineers while building community and culture within the engineering department and across the organization.
  • Supervising personnel within the engineering department, including task allocation, quality assurance, and timely delivery of engineering documents, maintaining high standards of excellence.
  • Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge and expertise in the company's equipment design philosophy and cutting-edge technologies, driving innovation and advancement.
  • Garnering a deep understanding of the industry, including its standards, regulations, and emerging trends, to guide strategic decision-making and ensure alignment with industry best practices.
  • Providing expert assistance to both operations and customers in resolving complex product issues, fostering strong relationships and ensuring utmost satisfaction.
  • Collaborating closely with the sales department to devise and implement strategies for increasing sales, expanding market reach, and acquiring new customers.
  • Playing a proactive role in expanding product lines and spearheading the development of innovative new products, driving sustained growth and competitiveness.
  • Leading multiple high-impact design projects and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and successful project delivery.
  • Keeping the executive management team informed about significant engineering developments, challenges, and opportunities, contributing valuable insights to strategic decision-making processes.

To effectively fulfill your responsibilities, you will engage in a diverse range of strategic and hands-on activities, including:


  • Developing innovative designs that precisely meet customer requirements and market demands, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and design methodologies.
  • Initiating and overseeing the development of groundbreaking designs aimed at expanding the company's product portfolio and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.
  • Leading comprehensive design reviews to ensure alignment with strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and quality standards, fostering continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Actively participating in relevant professional societies and organizations to stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, fostering a culture of learning and development.
  • Supporting the sales department through active participation in customer meetings, providing technical expertise, and contributing to sales growth and customer acquisition efforts.
  • Pursuing continuous personal and professional growth, staying abreast of advancements in engineering methodologies, technologies, and best practices.
  • Collaborating closely with sales and operations teams to meticulously cost products and projects, ensuring optimal profitability, competitiveness, and value.
  • Leveraging advanced expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and time domain analysis to drive innovation, optimize designs, and ensure product performance and reliability.


Qualifications:


To excel in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and attributes:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, demonstrating a solid foundation in engineering principles, practices, and methodologies.
  • Extensive professional experience spanning 10+ years in engineering, with a proven track record of leadership, innovation, and accomplishment.
  • A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in industrial products, showcasing deep industry knowledge, expertise, and understanding of unique industry challenges and requirements.
