Are you a current or former Health Scientist Administrator or Program Officer looking for a change? NIA's Division of Neuroscience's Office of the Division Director is recruiting for a Chief of Staff. This is a unique opportunity to integrate your scientific knowledge and experience with executive-level business management practices. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, drive organizational change, and make a meaningful impact on the success of the organization.

The Chief of Staff serves as a strategic partner and confidant to the DN leadership team, providing high-level support and assisting in the execution of organizational priorities, including scientific strategic planning. This role requires a combination of strong leadership, communication skills, and ability to manage complex projects and initiatives, and knowledge and experience in scientific research administration.

Role

Strategic Planning And Execution

This position includes the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the DN leadership team to develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Drive the execution of key strategic priorities, ensuring alignment across departments and monitoring progress towards goals.

Communication And Liaison

  • Provide support on interactions with internal and external stakeholders, representing the DN leadership team as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between the executive office and other departments, in collaboration with the leadership team, ensuring that information flows efficiently and effectively.

Decision Support

  • Provide analysis and recommendations to the DN leadership team on critical issues and opportunities facing the organization.
  • Conduct research, gather data, and prepare briefing materials to inform decision-making processes.
  • Operations Management:
  • Work with the DN-leadership team to identify and implement processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness within the DN OD.

Project Management

  • Lead and/or support strategic projects and initiatives on behalf of the DN leadership team, ensuring timely completion and successful outcomes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

Team Leadership And Development

  • Manage and mentor administrative and/or scientific support staff within the DN/leadership team, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to help team members develop their skills and capabilities.

Who Should Apply?

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s or graduate/higher-level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the position's work.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or management role, preferably in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities, with a track record of successfully managing complex projects and priorities.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, with the ability to handle confidential information and sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
