Assistant Vice President - Manager - Finance & Portfolio Valuation

Monroe Capital is seeking an Assistant Vice President – Manager to join its Finance and Portfolio Valuation group. This role will be responsible for assisting the Director – Finance & Portfolio Valuation in leading Monroe’s quarterly valuation processes, including oversight of 3rd party valuation firms and coordinating with Monroe’s underwriting and accounting teams and external auditors, including organizing these groups to meet desired deliverable timelines. This role will also include providing value-added reviews of modeled valuations and developing and coaching team members. Additionally, this role will support Monroe’s quarterly portfolio reporting for investor relations and senior management and be responsible for managing the preparation of deliverables for Monroe’s valuation committee and various board structures. This position will be hybrid out of our Chicago office with the expectation to come on-site 2-3x per week.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing quarterly valuation policies and procedures and overall coordination of Monroe’s quarterly valuation process with relevant internal and external parties
  • Manage workflow for the quarterly valuation cycle which includes due diligence requests from 3rd party valuation firms, review and analyze valuation reports prepared by 3rd party valuation firms, including managing the collaboration with the internal deal team throughout the process
  • Oversee the design of internal valuation models including discounted cash flow, market multiple analysis, market transactions modeling, option pricing and other complex securities analysis
  • Effectively analyze and present valuation results and overall valuation trends to internal parties, including senior management and Monroe’s valuation committee
  • Review and manage workflow for valuation reporting packages to support the needs of our various 20+ private investment funds and public investment vehicles
  • Closely monitor complex and challenging credits including preparation of sensitivity and stress analyses
  • Manage the annual audit as well as interim reviews with 3rd party valuation firms and the internal team and address open audit-related items
  • Collaborate with various groups throughout the firm to manage deliverables and to explain results, including the accounting, operations, underwriting, portfolio management and investor relations groups
  • Responsible for driving continued enhancements and improvements to the overall valuations and reporting processes, procedures, use of internal and external and resources and technology
  • Maintain an understanding of industry/market trends and updates/guidance on fair value reporting
  • Active development and management of the junior valuation staff and provide ad-hoc valuation training to other key members of the organization


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting
  • 10 - 15 years of total experience with previous 5 -7 years of portfolio valuation experience preferred at a private debt/equity firm, commercial/corporate bank, or valuation firm
  • CLOs, venture investments, and/or structured finance experience a plus


Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills
  • Understanding of valuation methodologies and approaches including the use of options pricing model
  • Understanding of private credit and macroeconomic factors impacting debt valuations
  • Well-organized self-starter with high energy, creativity, and thoughtfulness
  • Successful track record of staff development and effective project management
  • Detail oriented
  • Familiarity with financial statements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Power Point)
  • Database design and/or management a plus
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical models a plus
