Position Summary

The Assistant General Manager reviews, recommends and implements operations processes in order to maximize efficiency; manages daily operations of the Railroad; and participates in business planning process integral to the railway’s success that meet customer expectations and company’s business objectives.

The Assistant General Manager demonstrates and adheres to the company values of: safety, honesty, ownership, respect and teamwork to ensure successful partnership with customers and employees that result in OmniTRAX’s continued success.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operation and the Federal Railroad Association (FRA)
  • Accountable for the daily operations of the railroad, including: train and crew scheduling and assignment of locomotives for train operations and maintenance
  • Conduct analysis in areas such as: efficiency, job cost, and work schedule efficiency; identify, propose, and implement continuous process improvements and changes to best meet organization’s goals
  • Conduct incident and accident investigations: identify root cause and propose changes to decrease risk of reoccurrence
  • Monitor the accuracy of work reports and car movement records
  • Assist in the oversight of overall financial performance of the railroad to include: P&L, yearly budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and communicating results to senior leadership
  • Execute leadership aligned with the Company’s strategic goals

Other Duties

  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  • Wear required protective equipment such as: hard hats, hearing protection, safety-toe boots or safety glasses
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime and various shift work
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Exempt and non-exempt employees
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to team with execution of projects; set performance goals, and provide on-going coaching of employees to achieve career objectives, cultivate a high performance culture; build a leadership pipeline throughout the organization
  • Set the example, create and lead the culture of mutual respect, cooperation and attention to detail for employees to deliver profitable execution on business goals

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3 years’ railroad operations experience
  • 1-year supervisory experience in railroad operations
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to develop a high performance team
  • Strong analytical thinking executed in daily operations management
  • Self-motivated: meet or exceed company goals
  • Thorough knowledge of and compliance to FRA requirements specific to the operation and movement of trains
  • Read, comprehend and comply with published rules, procedures and manuals, inspection checklists, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memo, and other work-related information
  • Thorough knowledge of and compliance to railroad operations, including: Transportation, Maintenance of Way, Mechanical, and clerical activities
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; effectively communicate with all level of employees and business associates in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Demonstrate problem solving and troubleshooting skills resulting in effective resolution
  • Professional integrity and accountability
  • Work in fast-paced collaborative environment

Required Certifications And Licenses

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Previous experience in Rail Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics, Manufacturing and/or Oil & Gas industries
  • Bachelors’ Degree
  • Designated Supervisors of Locomotive Engineers (DSLE)

  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather: snow, rain, heat, and sub-freezing temps; loud noise, diesel fumes, grease and oil smells
