Account Manager - Government / DOD Freight

Account Manager - Government / DOD Freight

This pivotal role is responsible for developing, growing, and managing the Department of Defense (DoD) account. Success in this position requires an in-depth understanding of the DOD Transportation Management System (TMS) and the ability to research and analyze available freight to determine appropriate lanes and equipment types for tenders. An entrepreneurial mindset, meticulous attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of DoD service requirements are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire DoD account and meet growth targets for the company.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities in the DOD market.
  • Create and manage all DoD tenders and associated assessorial charges within the DoD TMS.
  • Develop strong relationships within the Department of Defense and individual bases. Serve as the liaison between key decision-makers and the company.
  • Coordinate and manage shipments from pick-up through delivery.
  • Utilize the DoD TMS to analyze and research all available freight to determine focus lanes and equipment types.
  • Ensure all service requirements are met and communicate any exceptions as required.
  • Enter and update accurate shipment data.
  • Schedule appointments to ensure ETAs for pick-up and delivery are on track.
  • Manage all administrative and accounting processes.
  • Maintain all required reports as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years in transportation brokerage or a logistics-related position.
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented.
  • Experience with DOD Global Freight Management (GFM) TMS.
  • Familiarity with DOD regulations and compliance.
  • Prior experience moving government or DOD truckload freight preferred.
  • Prior truckload sales or truckload operations experience.
  • Experience performing RFP/RFQ’s across multiple modes of truckload transport preferred.
  • Must apply for the annual application for a digital ECA Certificate to be loaded on your pc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based tools, with the ability to learn new software systems.
  • High level of industry knowledge, including current trends, seasonal trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and organizational time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of analytical tools (e.g., McLeod, Rating Tool) to support day-to-day decision-making regarding rates and capacity.
  • Process-oriented and results-driven.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and a sense of urgency.
  • Capacity to learn concepts quickly and apply them effectively.
  • Ability to work independently (self-directed) and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work over 40 hours per week as required.
