It’s one thing to go to events in DTC and e-comm, it’s another to fully take advantage of them. Here are my two main takeaways from the conversations I had at Shoptalk in Vegas: 1) Meeting/chatting in person is key to deepening relationships. I had the opportunity to meet customers, partners, and even Prive team members for the first time in person while at the event. Chatting in person helped us bond and understand each other better, which holds a lot of value. It was also cool to see that even in a very competitive market, people are still genuinely kind and friendly. It might seem from the outside that competitors should dislike each other, but I saw first-hand at ShopTalk that we’re all in this together and can still be kind to one another in the process. 2. Strong partnerships are something more brands are looking for. When talking with brand founders, the one big thing a lot of them mentioned was the desire for a strong partnership with every company they work with. Many people shared that they were left unsupported with tools/tech after buying them — this underscored the value of our approach at Prive. We prioritize a partnership mentality, offering whatever help our customers need post-onboarding. For a lot of brands and industry leaders, the emphasis is on the quality of partnership, not just the product features. Overall, ShopTalk was a blast and it was great getting to chat with every single one of you. If you were there — do you feel a similar way?

The idea that your company needs to "start a movement" seems too vendor-centric to me, particularly for B2B. Businesses are struggling to make money. They want technology that can help them meet their goals. I don't believe prospects want to join "the AI Accounting Revolution," - they just want accounting software that helps them meet their goals (and like, doesn't suck). I think sometimes marketers can get a bit of main character energy when it comes to this stuff. In B2B, our goals as vendors don't belong in the center of our positioning. The value we can deliver for our customers needs to be the core.

Due to the wide acceptance of #AI trends in numerous industries, it might seem as though everyone in the #corporate world collectively agrees that artificial intelligence is the best way forward — but even in these exclusive spaces, #digitization is more of a fraught topic than you’d expect. According to National Mortgage News, generative AI is raising many questions and concerns, especially from #mortgage professionals. According to research from Arizent, mortgage professionals are way more hesitant to engage in AI platforms or implement AI into their workplace. Some major causes for concern are a “loss of #personal touch,” concerns over job loss, and potential erosion of #individual thought, #ethics, and human #skills that come with relying on convenience. As predicted by many industry leaders, AI has far too many advantages for it to be ignored completely — so how do we reach a compromise with these mortgage professionals? Is it possible for their jobs to co-exist with AI technology, and consumers can opt for “human” quality services as a speciality service? What does this say about other industries that have quickly latched onto AI?

Segment design is one of my favorite parts of TigerEye. Cutting segments with simple rules is so incredibly powerful when you consider how each rule interacts with the others. When you're editing segments in TigerEye, you're generally working in a plan scenario. While you're developing the plan it doesn't change any production data - you're in a sandbox until you decide to publish the plan. This lets you see the impact of segmentation changes without messing up current account assignment or even showing your work to others. You can explore different ideas quickly and safely. We really believe that the reliance on manual work in spreadsheets is holding back operational teams - RevOps, SalesOps, MarketingOps, FinanceOps. These are critical strategic functions in modern business and we're building tools to help empower these teams to 10x their impact.

Interviewing hundreds of PE CEOs/execs over the last 15 yrs has taught me a lot about effective executive communication. The most effective communicators I've seen: 🔹Use short sentences and small words 🔹Adapt the message to fit the audience 🔹Lead w/ headline & support w/ details 🔹Answer closed-ended Q'swith a Y / N / # 🔹Use story strategically but don't overuse 🔹Recognize the power of metaphor (but don't overuse) 🔹Are comfortable being repetitive to drive home key ideas 🔹Check in with the receiver to see if the message is landing 🔹Understand how you say something is as important as what you say. 🔹Read the room, and know when they're selling past the close I'm working on making better use of a few of these learnings right now.

When stuck in a scenario where revenue is growing at a moderate pace, but not fast enough and burn is putting the pressure on getting to the ARR target of $1M+ faster, Founders need to find a way to grow revenue quickly. One thing Founders get advice on is “increase the deal size and you only need X deals to get there.” The problem is, it’s not just about hitting a revenue milestone, it’s telling the story of your ability to acquire and grow your customer base for the next 10+ years.

CS teams NEED to start "managing up" with execs and the board by talking about REVENUE. Yes, you can keep talking about sentiment and feelings, but start with the $. Don't lead with churn- Bottom-line-focused execs don't like that headline, so you need to tell the story better. An informal poll had CS teams owning over 50% of the revenue of many SaaS companies. Lead with this and have it be your first talking point. From there you will be able to get more things done with other departments, as your requests will be revenue-focused Need to get a Customer Success Platform as you scale? Point to revenue and the potential to lose revenue without efficiencies Need to hire more to prevent burnout? Point to Revenue potential with renewals and upsells Talk in the language your execs and board want to hear.
