Happy Golden Week to all our friends and partners in Japan!🎉 This week, amidst the celebrations, we are reminded of the unique economic dynamics at play in Japan. The current global economic climate, coupled with a weakening Yen, presents an intriguing scenario for international businesses. Operating in Japan during these times is akin to sailing in stormy seas - challenging but rewarding if navigated well. It's a great opportunity to embrace diversification, optimise operations and build robust strategies that can withstand global economic shifts. The key is to stay informed, adaptable, and resilient. Understanding the local market as well as the global market, incorporating cultural nuances, and embracing change. For anyone who hasn't already ready it "Who Moved My Cheese" is a good quick little read and offers great lessons on anticipating and enjoying change. Navigating the international business landscape isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. It's about knowing when to sail with the wind and when to anchor down. What are your thoughts on the impact of the weak Yen on your business? Are you adapting your strategies to the current political/economic climate? #GoldenWeek #Japan #InternationalTrade #BusinessStrategy #EconomicClimate Feel free to share your insights! 🚀

Are you thinking about expanding your #healthcare services in Vietnam? Vietnam's healthcare industry has been showing a great potential for investors and suppliers. The country's healthcare expenditures per capita are expected to grow by 9.2% per year over 2009-2025, reaching US$ 262 by 2025, equivalent to 5.8% of the country's GDP. The country's healthcare spending is split evenly between #public and #private sectors in 2023. While public institutions have historically dominated, strain and limited funding are driving attention to the private sector. Government incentives, such as a four-year tax exemption and 50% tax reduction for nine years, allowed an increase in private hospitals from 40 to 318 between 2004 and 2022. Most are in the main cities (Hanoi, HCMC, Da Nang), targeting high-end markets. Despite handling just 6.3% of inpatient care, private providers manage 32.2% of outpatient care according to Viettonkin Consulting, offering services like dental care, diagnostics, and imaging. 👉 Have a look at Vietnam’s healthcare infographic below for key highlights. #SourceofAsia #HealthcareMarket #GrowingRevenue #InvestInHealthcare

Got to publish an article with e27 (Optimatic). I wrote this many years ago and updated it. This is an article on why introductions should not be so flippant in Asia. In recent days, I have been travelling across the SEA region connecting with many new business relationships. It is natural for me to direct them to TRIVE's own startups, because I trust my CEOs to handle my relationships with utmost respect. Do have a read to better understand how relationships should be handled in Asia. #businessrelationships

Over the past decade, we have been deliberating on the appropriate entry and exit valuations in the Vietnamese market. Although these valuations are likely to change, we have set a standard for the next 3-5 years. Considering the economic status, industry structure and size, development speed and patterns, startup environment, perception and activities of foreign companies, evolution of capital market systems, involvement of investors and investment banks, areas of interest for Private Equity Funds, and the potential for profit generation, changes and speed in Vietnamese consumer purchasing power, industries with significant or limited purchasing power, industries receptive or resistant to change, growth in sectors like super apps, platforms, consumer goods, transportation, education, and the development of the semiconductor backend industry, there are many factors to consider. However, the appropriate entry and exit valuations for Vietnamese startups require more than just absolute value figures. Research on feasible exit sizes, methods, industries, and stages is necessary. Fortunately, since 2018, most companies we have invested in have shown a corporate value growth of more than tenfold, and they are at stages where exiting would be justifiable. From this year onwards, we need to not only continue making prudent investments but also devise effective exit strategies unique to the Vietnamese market.

Vietnam's rapid economic growth and competitive labor market have made it an attractive destination for foreign investors. Two primary outsourcing models are prevalent: Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Employer of Record (EOR). BPO involves contracting third-party companies to handle specific business functions like customer service, IT support, and accounting, allowing businesses to focus on core activities while leveraging specialized skills. On the other hand, EOR involves outsourcing employment responsibilities to a third-party provider who becomes the legal employer, handling payroll, taxes, benefits, and compliance with labor laws. This model allows companies to quickly hire and manage employees without establishing a legal entity in Vietnam. Choosing between BPO and EOR depends on business objectives, compliance requirements, cost implications, and control preferences. Understanding these models and their regulatory implications helps investors optimize operations, manage risks, and capitalize on opportunities in Vietnam's dynamic market.
