The myth that mentally ill people are inherently violent is harmful stigma - the data shows most gun deaths are actually self-directed violence (suicide). And because federal funding for research on this public health crisis has been restricted for decades, we've been left in the dark about what inherently drives gun violence and how to prevent it through evidence-based solutions. Once housed, HPP assists with life services, recovery support, and mental health care. We are joining with the Early Childhood Investment Corporation and other partners to oppose state legislation that would exclude community-based organizations and providers from the PreK for All model. Children, parents and employers statewide count on mixed-delivery of the Great Start Readiness Program. The budget currently proposed by the state House Appropriations Subcommittee on School Aid and Education would exacerbate our child care crisis. It would harm working families, employers and our economy. The Impact of and Solutions to Homelessness, Mental Health, and Poverty Homelessness is a complex and persistent issue affecting millions worldwide. Individuals experiencing homelessness often face a multitude of challenges, including lack of access to safe and affordable housing, limited job opportunities, and inadequate healthcare. The economic and social costs of homelessness are substantial, impacting not only individuals but also communities as a whole. The Interconnectedness of Poverty and Mental Health Poverty and mental health are inextricably linked, with each contributing to the other. Individuals living in poverty are more likely to experience mental health problems due to chronic stress, lack of access to healthcare, and limited resources. Conversely, mental health conditions can make it difficult for individuals to maintain stable employment, secure housing, and engage in self-care, leading to a cycle of poverty. HBHM's Holistic Approach Healthy Body, Healthy Mind (HBHM) is a charity organization dedicated to alleviating poverty, homelessness, and mental health issues. HBHM recognizes the interconnectedness of these challenges and adopts a holistic approach that addresses the underlying causes of these issues. Through a range of programs and initiatives, HBHM provides support to individuals and communities, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty, homelessness, and mental distress. How We Can Contribute As a society, we have a collective responsibility to address the issues of poverty, homelessness, and mental health. 💡 Grant Writing Tip: How (and why!) to use visuals in your grant proposal Page limits are among the most daunting parts of grant writing. With so much to say and such limited space to say it, why would you waste that valuable real estate on visuals? Read on for reasons why you should include visuals in your grant proposals (and how).  Why❓ Reviewer time and attention Think about the people reviewing your grant. In addition to yours, they will be reading many, many proposals. Even the most attentive of readers will tire of pages and pages of single-spaced, Times New Roman text describing technical details of potential projects - so make it easy for them!  A diagram illustrating how your research and education/outreach activities align with your bigger picture, or a logic model showing how your methods and metrics build towards your objectives, can demonstrate your proposed plan in a lot less space and, often, with far greater clarity than several pages of text. There is also a more practical reason to include visuals: They draw our attention! Even if reviewers are skimming over portions of a proposal, a well-placed diagram will get them to stop and take notice. Those visual breaks can make your proposal a lot more memorable, while also bringing your key ideas to the forefront. How❓ Types of visuals and how to use them There are many types of visuals that are helpful to include in a grant proposal - timelines and logic models are two of the commonly used ones! 🔹 Timelines: A Gantt chart is often used to show the timeframes and order for the proposed research, outreach, and/or education activities. Addressing Systemic Barriers: Advancing Equitable Housing Access for Homeless Populatio Homelessness remains a persistent and complex issue, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities due to systemic inequities in housing, income, and social services. Despite efforts to address homelessness, many individuals and families continue to face significant barriers in accessing safe and affordable housing. In this article, we explore the challenges and opportunities in advancing equitable housing access for homeless populations. The Challenge of Systemic Barriers: One of the primary challenges in addressing homelessness is the presence of systemic barriers that perpetuate housing instability. Structural factors such as housing affordability, discrimination, and limited access to economic opportunities contribute to homelessness and exacerbate disparities among marginalized communities. Racial and ethnic minorities, in particular, face disproportionate rates of homelessness due to historical injustices and ongoing systemic discrimination. Barriers to Housing Access: Homeless individuals and families encounter numerous barriers when attempting to access housing and supportive services. These barriers include: - Limited affordable housing options: A lack of affordable housing units contributes to prolonged periods of homelessness and housing instability. - Discrimination: Racial and ethnic minorities often face discrimination in the housing market, making it difficult to secure stable housing. - Lack of access to economic opportunities: Limited access to education, employment, and healthcare services perpetuates cycles of poverty and homelessness. - Inadequate support services: Insufficient funding and resources for homeless assistance programs result in long waitlists and limited access to supportive services such as case management and mental health care.
