Breathless reporting about AI causing the US to run out of energy requires some nuance. The real issue is not energy, but building out the grid fast enough to accommodate both new supply and new demand. Between healthy reserve margins in key data center regions (PJM: 38%, SERC: 30%, North West: 21%), and proposed new generation at more than 2x the current generation fleet, there should be enough energy... if it can get on the grid.
