About us

STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN Mindful of New York City’s unique history and contemporary context of Tribeca’s Textile building, gallerists Nacho Polo and Robert Onuska have reimagined the 7,000 square foot space at the corner of Church and Leonard streets for the presentation of works by the established and emerging designers and artists STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN represents. They have personally designed every detail of the sensory journey, contemplating and shaping light, sight, sound, and touch throughout the interior. The result is an immersive experience that connects aesthetics and emotion. STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN is an art and design gallery representing contemporary, iconic, limited edition, and collectible design established in Miami in 2018. The designers and artists STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN represents are personally curated by gallery founder and creative director Nacho Polo and director Robert Onuska, who are passionate collectors of contemporary art. Their curatorial perspective of design, furniture, lighting, and objects they present at STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN may be described as timeless, luxurious, and minimalist, yet it defies easy categorization. Clients worldwide come to STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN for exclusive and unique statement pieces, all of which are made-to-order. STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN Each of the works we have curated in our gallery has it’s own individual story from the artist who designed it. Collectively they become part of our STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN gallery experience. Artistic Direction by Nacho Polo Curation by Nacho Polo & Robert Onuska Interior Design by Nacho Polo & Robert Onuska Nacho Polo Robert Onuska The Granchio Bar Cabinet has one of the most endearing stories that could be overlooked when admiring the craftsmanship and beauty of its design and functionality. Designed by French interior architect Laura Gonzalez who was inspired by her youngest son’s drawing of a granchio, meaning ‘crab’ in Italian. The cabinet exceptionally displays the designer’s whimsical yet elegant eye that is imbued with a deep reverence for the tradition of fine decorative arts. Referencing the grandeur of beaux-arts design, the Granchio is nonetheless contemporary and playful. Standing on its legs and is dressed in precious wood marquetry in tamo, madrone, and poplar, the Granchio features hammered bronze handles as the crab’s eyes. It contains two illuminated shelves to display glasses and bottles on a luminous podium, as well as two upholstered drawers with wave handles. The interior of the doors and the back of the cabinet are inlaid with mirrors for a stunning multiplying effect. STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN One focus when working on the interior of our gallery was to play with the sensuality of different silhouettes, not only architecturally but also with the curation of the works on view at the gallery. These works combine noble materials such as solid woods, bronzes and marbles to create this sensuality throughout the gallery. PEWS by Michael Bennett Drawing on black American vernacular for a sense of home, Bennett’s collection explores how we return to core principles of identity, culture, and family when we encounter moments of doubt, fear, and loss. Each of the works invites us to return to ourselves, to find strength and resilience in the tranquil space of home. For Bennett, the collection becomes a cradle for connection with black cultural history and ancestry, paying homage to a rich lineage of excellence in craftsmanship and storytelling. Drawing on forms and geometries found in west African design, motifs in Caribbean art, and Bennett’s upbringing in the coastal American South, the sculptural collection is rooted in ideas of intersectionality, place, and community within the African diaspora Working with fine American artisans to craft each work, Bennett reimagines domestic mainstays, such as tables and seating, while imbuing them with poignant references to black history and art. Bennett names his works after family members and cultural touchstones to connect the material and ancestral history with the people and settings most important to him. #STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN

STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN We like to look at ordinary things in extraordinary ways. When designing our gallery we had a very basic, functional and fundamental need, to add a coat closet for our guests coats and bags. The addition of this room to our gallery created an opportunity for us to rethink the concept and elevate the design. Our intent was to design a beautiful wardrobe, or dressing room, similar to one you would find at home. The entrance to our coat closet continues the architectural design of our interior, with another 10ft / 3m tall arched doorway with another one of our signature handcarved chestnut doorknobs. As in our guest powered room, we wrapped the walls and ceiling in natural jute creating a very special and moody atmosphere and we chose warm and noble elements such as a dark bronze vintage coatrack, a bronze textured console by Italian designer Simone Fanciullacci and contrasted it with a polished bronze table lamp by Colombian designer David Aguirre, both works exclusively designed for our gallery. On top of the console, we chose darker bronze works by French artist Victor Guedy. For a touch of color, we installed this painting by 90 year old British artist Rose Wylie from our private art collection.
