Updates

  • This year marks 35 years that St. Mary Development Corporation has been providing innovative housing solutions and wrap around support for older adults throughout Ohio. Since the inception of St. Mary Development, we have created 47 affordable communities, provided homes for more than 4,865 families, coordinated over 3,700 educational programs and held over 84,000 one on one visits with those we serve. Celebrating 35 years of existence is a momentous occasion and provides us with an opportunity to highlight the achievements we have accomplished over the years. It is also a time to honor the visionary journey of Founder’s Dick McBride and Sr. Rose Wildenhaus who lead with faith and dared to believe in the impossible. Our team today, carries the same calling to serve. We approach challenges with the same courage, faith, humility, and love that guided Dick and Sr. Rose on their extraordinary journey. Their story isn't just about the past; it continues to inspire and guide us toward a brighter future. This is all possible because of the unwavering support and dedication of our staff and community partners over the years who have been instrumental in our success. We cannot thank you enough for your efforts to minimize the negative social determinants of health and improve the overall quality of life of Ohio’s older adults.

Being a sponsor of the 2024 Business of Aging event places your business at the heart of a successful event addressing the important issues around housing, technology, and healthcare for older adults. This year's theme will center around innovations in Housing for Older Adults. The U.S. housing market finds itself at a pivotal moment: an acute housing supply shortage of about 4 million units coupled with historic home price appreciation have led to a crisis in affordability. Nearly half (46%) of Ohio's renters experienced housing cost burden, and almost a quarter (24%) experienced severe housing cost burden.   Our panelists this year are experts in thinking outside the box and collectively moving the needle of change for sustainable innovative ideas in housing for older adults. As a sponsor of this annual event, your business will demonstrate the importance of raising awareness of the needs of our aging population. The audience will be sophisticated leaders in housing, technology, and healthcare. Following the event, the recorded video will be shared with our network of partners and leaders, and will include logos of all 2024 sponsors. Learn more below: https://lnkd.in/eq5VVfRc

  • St. Mary Development offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th in observation of Juneteenth. What is Juneteenth you may ask? On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. This day came to be known as Juneteenth, now officially a federal holiday. Juneteenth is a time to celebrate, gather as a family, reflect on the past and look to the future. St. Mary Development is proud to commemorate an important part of our nation's history, reflect on the injustices still prevalent within our community and strive toward a day where all people are treated equally.

  • St. Mary Development staff spent a day earlier this week participating in the Women Veteran's Health Fair and the renaming Celebration for the VA's Women's Clinic in honor of U.S. Army LTC Charity Adams Earley, who was the first African American woman to reach the rank of officer. Our staff was there to share how St. Mary supports veterans through supportive housing and services on the VA campus.

Why the NeighborWorks America network and St. Mary Development Corporation advocate for affordable housing: Older adults are battling rises in substance abuse, increased isolation, and other personal and emotional challenges. More than 20% of adults age 60+ suffer from a mental or neurological disorder. St. Mary Development sees similar statistics with 20% of its older residents admit to having mental health or substance abuse struggles. The U.S. housing market is also impacting seniors financially. An acute housing supply shortage of about 4 million units coupled with historic home price appreciation have led to a crisis in affordability. Nearly half (46%) of Ohio's renters experience housing cost burdens, and almost a quarter (24%) experience severe housing cost burdens. #NWWeek #EmpoweringCommunities
