Seabourn Pursuit hosted an exclusive event in Darwin to celebrate the completion of its inaugural sailing in the breathtaking Kimberley region. We were honored to have The Hon Joel Bowden MLA, Northern Territory Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, deliver an inspiring speech, highlighting the significance of this milestone for both Seabourn and the local community. The event featured a captivating performance by The Youth Mill, a group dedicated to the artistic preservation of culture and language. President Natalya Leahy was on board to welcome local government officials, stakeholders, and media.

"As we christen her today, we name this ship Seabourn Pursuit. May God bless her and all who sail on her.” Join us as we continue to celebrate Seabourn Pursuit, her Godparents the Wunambal Gaambera people, her guests, and a wonderful future ahead. We come with kindest intentions in our minds and hearts, deeply honored that the people who have lived in this region for thousands of years have christened our newest expedition ship and welcomed us into their country. Our dream was to take our guests to the most remarkable places in the world and create true, genuine connections with the communities we visit. Seabourn Pursuit has officially been named during a historic expedition ceremony on Ngula Jar Island, Australia. With guests on Zodiacs® alongside the ship and the ship’s onboard team lined up on the decks, the Wunambal Gaambera Traditional Owners named Seabourn Pursuit, marking the first time Traditional Owners named a ship. The day honored Wunambal Gaambera Country and the Kimberley region, featuring a Wunambal Gaambera welcome and smoking ceremony, “jimɨrri,” the “Junba” traditional storytelling song and dance, and visits to ancient rock art sites. The naming ceremony, held in both Wunambal Gaambera language and English, included a blessing for all who will ever sail on board. A bottle crafted from sugar and coated with sand from Ngula Jar Island shattered against the bow of the ship, honoring one of the oldest maritime traditions. The bottle serves not only as a vessel of celebration but a symbol of our friendship and our deep respect and admiration for the owners of the land.
