A win for California restaurants! The state Senate just passed a bill providing clarity and protections on service charges, surcharges, and auto-gratuities for diners before they're charged for a meal. Plus it exempts restaurants from the state's anti-surcharge law, effective today. These pricing options have been crucial for the restaurant industry post-pandemic, and we're proud to support the California Restaurant Association in their efforts to pass this bill. Our C-suite, including our CEO, Debby Soo, Chief Strategy Officer, Susan Lee, and Chief Operating Officer, Amy Wei, are proof of the magic that happens when you show up as your most authentic self to work. More via Inc. Magazine on their career journeys and ambitions and how they, alongside the rest of our C-suite, are the right people to execute on our mission to help restaurants – and restaurateurs from all walks of life – thrive.
So proud to work alongside these two incredible women, Susan Lee and Amy Wei. 10 years ago if you told us that Inc. Magazine would write an article about all of us at the helm of a company, we wouldn’t have believed you. Thank you Jennifer Conrad for telling our story. And thank you to those who supported us along the way. Now, back to work - we got a lot left to do! https://lnkd.in/g-9DrczC

While at the National Restaurant Association Show, we did some recon on what chefs and hospitality pros are noticing about Gen Z diners and employees. As Paul Pruitt, Founder and CEO of New School Consulting, an LA-based hospitality agency, says: “the Gen Z employee is much more interested in dusting off that mission statement but also being like ‘what do you stand for, what are you about, how does that align with my personal values’”. Tune in to hear more on this below. #hospitality #restaurants #technology #GenZ

The industry lost a true legend over the weekend, Chef James Kent. Chef James was a force within the NYC restaurant community, whose passion, creativity – and notably, the hospitality he showed the world and his team – will leave a lasting legacy. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and his team.

That’s a wrap on one of the industry’s biggest moments: the “Oscars of the food world,” aka the The James Beard Foundation Awards. We hosted the annual Rosé Bowl in honor of lifetime achievement award winner, the incomparable Ruth Reichl – and we were out in full force as chefs and restaurateurs were recognized for this top honor. Congrats to all the winners and nominees, thanks for all you do to take our industry to the next level. #restaurants #awards #JamesBeardAwards

How do you make a trade show memorable? Free tattoos are a good start. We were all over the National Restaurant Association Show and #TheUtilityShow where we sponsored food-inspired tattoos over at UTILITY and brought a digital illustrator to sketch restaurant facades at the #2024RestaurantShow. We also hosted a dinner for restaurant industry leaders with our new advisory board member, Chris DeSaye. Thank you to the team at José Andrés Group’s Bazaar Meat for the hospitality, and to our attendees for bringing great conversation to the table. Until next time!
