📢 Today, the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games announced more than a dozen venue assignments for Olympic sports, utilizing sports venues and locations in the City of Los Angeles and neighboring cities of Long Beach and Carson. Today’s announcement confirms seven Olympic sporting events to be held in Long Beach. As a Venue City, Long Beach is set to host the largest number of sporting events other than the host City of Los Angeles for the LA28 Games. ✨ Long Beach’s Arena will host 🤾 Handball, Marine Stadium will host 🛶Canoe-Sprint and 🚣 Rowing competitions, ⛵️ Sailing will be held in the water along the Belmont Shore, 🏊♀️ Marathon Swimming and Triathlon competitions will be held along the Waterfront along 🌊 Alamitos Beach, and 🤽♀️ Water Polo will be held in a temporary aquatics center at the Convention Center lot. The relocation of Rowing and Canoe Sprint from Lake Perris in Riverside County to Marine Stadium, which involved exceptional arrangements supported by the World Rowing Congress and specific for the LA28 Games, will place the athletes of these sports at the heart of the Long Beach sport cluster, enhancing the experience for both athletes and spectators. Long Beach could potentially host Artistic Swimming and Para Swimming competitions, pending the City of Los Angeles’ approval, as proposed by LA28 on June 21, 2024. July is #DisabilityPrideMonth! Today we held our inaugural flag raising ceremony for the Disability Pride flag in the Civic Center Plaza. Throughout the month we will share various resources we have available in our City for people with disabilities. View our efforts and resources here ℹ️ https://lnkd.in/gtnTKMPR Recognizing July as Disability Pride and Empowerment Month underscores the City’s commitment to annually celebrating and respecting all people with disabilities and builds upon the efforts of breaking barriers in all areas of public life. It also recognizes the valuable contributions the disability community brings to the growth, diversity and economic prosperity of Long Beach. In July 2023, the Long Beach City Council adopted a resolution recognizing July as Disability Pride and Empowerment Month in honor of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in July 1990.
