The William H. Farquhar Middle School was designed and constructed adjacent to the existing school. The LEED Silver-certified, 3-story facility serves grades 6-8 and features geothermal heating and cooling, a green roof, daylight harvesting, rainwater collection, and porous paving. Key features include: • Community use of the cafeteria, media center, and gymnasium • New athletic fields, parking lot, parent drop-off loop, bus loop, tennis and basketball courts • Design optimized for the County’s Rustic Roads Program, preserving the rural and agricultural character • Bioretention facilities and a geothermal system utilizing the site’s wet, clay soils • Vegetated roofs, outdoor learning courtyards, and vistas The school integrates seamlessly with the natural landscape, promoting sustainability and community connection. Hord Coplan Macht is teaming up with Montgomery Housing Partnership to design Nebel Street, a 166-unit affordable and mixed-income community in White Flint, MD. This project will offer much-needed affordable housing near public transit and enhance the neighborhood with its innovative urban and landscape design. Features include: • Efficiency, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units • Indoor amenity spaces • Structured parking with 155 spaces • Environmental integration with views, outdoor decks, and a tree-lined walkway • An urban pocket park across the street The Nebel Street project will seek LEED-Homes v4 Gold Certification and National Green Building Standards. Congratulations to our partner, MacKenzie Contracting Company, LLC, on the Gold Excellence Award from ABC Greater Baltimore for the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center Breast Center project. This HCM-designed project significantly expanded the women’s health offering by expanding the center to a full floor. The expansion and renovation collocates multiple services, including imaging, for an improved patient experience.
