Last week, Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH, Immediate Past President of the American Medical Association, was interviewed about the responsible use of AI across biomedical research, education and patient care. Dr. Ehrenfeld noted that developers of AI tools and other digital health applications must pay attention to—and avoid repeating—the mistakes made during the rollout of electronic health records. He also shared that until recently being overtaken by prior authorization requirements, EHRs were the No. 1 driver of dissatisfaction among physicians. 🔒 So, how do we ensure our EHR & AI implementations are enabling clinicians rather than causing more headaches? 🔑 “The fundamental mistake was we didn't have the physician voice present throughout the design-development-deployment cycle of EHRs,” Dr. Ehrenfeld said. Congratulations, WakeMed, on continuing to drive positive patient outcomes through #healthIT #innovation and #excellence!
The average wait time in the U.S. for patients to see a physician is 26 days, a 24% increase since 2004. Our friends at WakeMed recently showed that two techniques—breaking up old processes and embracing self-scheduling tools—can make quite a difference. All told, their approach has led to an increase of 75,000 visits annually, increasing outpatient revenue by 21%. WakeMed used Epic analytics to identify the causes of scheduling bottlenecks, finding stringent scheduling processes—like what time of day new patients can be seen—to be a key culprit. While using that data to drive change, WakeMed embraced a better digital experience for patients, using Fast Pass to automatically offer appointments to waitlisted patients and using self-scheduling to help patients book more appointments without straining scheduling staff. Congrats, folks! Read more: https://lnkd.in/gcQ_XiWv #healthcare #healthIT #capacity
