Creating life changing opportunities through the power of work. 100% local 100% nonprofit.

About us

With the support of our entire community, we create life changing opportunities through training and the power of work. Goodwill SF Bay serves thousands of people in our community every year who are emerging from military service, incarceration, homelessness, recovery from addiction – or simply lacking education or job skills. We provide no cost career services, job training and connections to jobs at Goodwill or one of our 334 employer partners. Goodwill relies on a combination of material and financial donations. While many nonprofits must raise 100% of their operating and program budget, our employment social enterprise allows us to leverage every item donated through our 33 donation centers and purchased at one of our 34 stores, 2 warehouse outlets or online - to generate 85% of the revenue we need. This leaves a gap of 15% to be raised through philanthropy and government support.

Last week our team had the honor of attending the Oakland Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and celebration with businesses and community peers. The event celebrated everything uniquely Oakland and recognized those who make a positive impact on the city. Our President and CEO William Rogers proudly serves as a board member of the Chamber and represented Goodwill SF Bay as a corporate sponsor. It's inspiring to be part of a community organization that values progress within the East Bay and supports our mission of People, Planet, and Possibilities.

Goodwill San Francisco Bay is so grateful to receive the ongoing support and generosity of the former mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown. In June, we received a remarkable assortment of fashion items from Brown. Among these were custom-tailored suits, stylish dress shoes, and luxury designer items. Our dedicated e-commerce team listed 46 donated items on the Goodwill eBay page for sale. This generous contribution has helped enhance critical funding toward our Mission of providing no-cost job training and career services to our neighbors in need of a second chance. Thank you, Mr. Willie Brown, for a successful second round of donations!

Celebrate the Fillmore Jazz Fest and explore the specially curated items for you to shop, including records, vintage clothes, and musical instruments. We will be in the heart of the festival on July 6th & 7th, celebrating the joy of music and community in our Fillmore store. This year we will host the incredibly talented local saxophonist Kalin Joshua Freeman, who will be bringing the jams while you shop in-store. This iconic San Francisco event showcases the soul of one of America's most unique and historic neighborhoods, the Fillmore district. Once dubbed "The Harlem of the West", this area hosted history's major musical talents, including Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Billie Holliday. Juneteenth, now a national holiday, marks the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865. It’s also a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made as a nation and the significant work still ahead. On Saturday, June 15, Goodwill SF Bay hosted a community booth at the annual Juneteenth SF Festival https://juneteenth-sf.org/ in the heart of the Fillmore district. Our goal was to raise awareness about our mission and guide customers to our Fillmore store. Festival-goers stopped by to say hello, giving our team the opportunity to share our mission with those seeking employment for themselves or someone they know. A group of three gentlemen shared how Goodwill gave them a second chance over 25 years ago, and they proudly reported a collective 75 years of recovery! A former employee also stopped by to reminisce with Michael Scott, our Community Partnerships Lead. Others visited the booth to learn about our job and career services, express their love for Goodwill, and receive free Juneteenth wristbands, Goodwill pens, and buttons. The event was filled with vibrant attire, live music, food, and educational booths celebrating the culture. At Goodwill SF Bay, our commitment to the values of belonging and learning allows us to honor the communities we have served in the Bay Area for over a century. We strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and we remain dedicated to ensuring sustainable wages and 21st-century jobs for everyone. Learn more about our work and impact at sfgoodwill.org. A special shout-out to mission team members Michael Scott, Marielena Benavides, Jay Sutter, and Taylor Schmidt, as well as marketing team members Cynthia Alexander and Divya Bhatnagar, for participating and sharing our mission with the community.

In January 2018, Abishek embarked on a journey that would redefine his future. Emigrating from Nepal to the United States, he carried a persistent fascination with technology and a dream to make significant strides in the field. His path led him to enlist in the United States Navy in 2019, where he dedicated four years to mastering electronics and deepening his technical acumen. Abishek’s journey from Nepal to San Francisco had many steps and we are proud that a Goodwill SF Bay training program was one of them. Like many of our program participants, he sought an opportunity and made the most of it through ambition and determination. Our programs are designed to support people at any step of their journey, whether they are veterans, English language learners, are justice-involved, or have been out of the workforce for any reason. We welcome anyone who, like Abishek, is dedicated to continuous learning and advancement. Want to learn more about our classes and certifications, including how to enroll? Join us as we share the remarkable journey of Samone, a proud leader at Goodwill San Francisco Bay. Born and raised in Stockton, California, Samone's early life was marked by hardship, including the loss of her brother to gang violence and serving time in federal prison. Despite these challenges, she used her time in prison to self-reflect and change her life trajectory. After being released to a halfway house in San Francisco, Samone found an opportunity at Goodwill. What started as a six-month transitional employment program evolved into a fulfilling career. Today, she proudly manages the West Portal boutique store. Her resilience and determination inspire us all. Thank you for watching and supporting Goodwill's mission to provide opportunities and hope to those who need it most. Watch Samone's story here: https://bit.ly/3VuOEqV
