It’s a “myth” that AI will be the end of growth in tech, says Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President and CEO Mary C. Daly at #BrainstormTech. “Tech still has an upward trajectory," she said. Daly gave an upbeat view on artificial intelligence’s impact on jobs, noting that while businesses are still figuring out how to get the most out of the technology, she saw early indications that AI is helping workers more than harming them. Digit, the flagship robot at Agility Robotics, raised its hand to wave at the audience at #BrainstormTech in Park City, Utah, as CEO Peggy Johnson explained to the crowd why the robot’s knees were, well, backward—like bird legs. “Knees get in the way of picking things up,” she explained to Fortune tech reporter Jason Del Rey, pointing out that Digit was designed to work in big warehouses, lifting things up and putting things down. Now, Digit is putting its backward-knees design, ten years in the making, to good use: The droid recently got hired at its first real job—picking up totes at a Spanx facility in Connecticut and putting them onto conveyors. Having a safe and reliable robot means Digit can join Peggy Johnson on stage for big events. Of course, the majority of our fleet is usually deployed at various customer sites, so it was nice to take a break and join Fortune at this year's #BrainstormTech event.
