As a proud Houstonian, businessowner, homeowner, and parent to three young sons, Hurricane Beryl has impacted my community in a way that, I hate to say, we’ve grown accustomed to in recent years.
Fallen tree limbs, a shattered backyard fence, damaged vehicle, and spoiled perishable goods, to name a few casualties of the storm that lasted only a few short hours yesterday morning.
For the past two days, most of my colleagues, family, and friends have been navigating life without power, and it's been challenging to keep 'business as usual', to say the least.
While the lack of electricity has certainly posed its challenges, it has also reminded us of the power of community … finding joy in the simplest of things – peacefully reading a book (which I haven’t done in years), card games with neighbors, and poolside lounging while admiring the beauty of the night sky, unobstructed by city lights.
A heartfelt Thank You to the tireless workers and volunteers who are out there restoring power and helping those in need. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful.
