CHP exists to improve the health of the Pikes Peak region.

About us

CHP's mission is to transform the way people work together to solve complex community health issues. Because systems are fundamentally broken, we disrupt the ways we work together to solve complex issues such as homelessness, behavioral health, suicide prevention, and LGBTQ+ health. We don’t attempt to solve health equity issues through direct services. Instead, we leverage collective action to create community change. We set up collaborative governance structures that bring together diverse groups of people, representing organizations and communities, to change the conditions that hold a problem in place. This collective community power builds movements, restructures systems, and leads to better health outcomes for our region. By creating an environment of belonging, cultivating shared purpose, and facilitating a process of inclusive, dynamic problem-solving, CHP acts as the conduit for the exchange of ideas, experience, energy, and resources that are necessary for true transformation.

  • 🌈Today is International Nonbinary People's Day, which recognizes and honors non-binary people, who do not identify within the traditional gender binary of male and female. This annual observance also raises awareness of the challenges nonbinary people face, such as discrimination, lack of legal recognition, and mental health struggles. Here are a few simple ways to support the nonbinary people in your life: 1. Use Correct Pronouns: Respecting and using a person’s pronouns creates a sense of belonging, which impacts well-being and reduces suicide risk. 2. Listen and Learn: Take time to listen to and validate their experiences and educate yourself about non-binary identities. 3. Challenge Gender Norms: Question stereotypes and advocate for inclusive language and policies. 4. Speak Up: Stand against misgendering and offer support, even when they’re not around. 5. Create Safe Spaces: Make environments welcoming with gender-neutral bathrooms and inclusive resources. Let's celebrate the non-binary community today and every day by fostering respect, understanding, and acceptance. #InternationalNonbinaryPeoplesDay #Nonbinary #LGBTQIA #SupportNonbinaryPeople

  • 🌈 Pride Month may be ending, but our commitment to equality and equity continues every single day. Earlier this month, CHP opened Prism Community Collective , a new resource center serving those impacted by the Club Q tragedy, including the broader LGBTQ+ community. When developing Prism with our community partners, our approach emphasized survivor voices, community collaboration, and tailored solutions for those it serves. Click on the link to learn more about how this approach resulted in a warm, welcoming space where our LGBTQ+ community can live authentic, celebrated, and liberated lives. https://lnkd.in/gemuBQd3

  • Today is National PTSD Awareness Day. LPTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, was once thought to affect only returning combat veterans. However, PTSD can impact anyone who has experienced a traumatic event, including victims of violent crime or those who have lived through catastrophic events. In fact, 20% of adults in the United States who have experienced a traumatic event suffer from PTSD. If you or someone you know are struggling with symptoms of PTSD, call 988. This hotline offers free and confidential support for people in distress and can provide resources for you or your loved ones. #PTSDAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #SupportAndHeal #Call988

  • Today, we honor and celebrate Juneteenth! On this day in 1865, the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth is more than a historic milestone; it’s a time to honor the tremendous contributions of Black Americans and the rich cultural heritage of Black communities. It's also a day to reflect on the progress that’s been made and to recommit ourselves to the work that still lies ahead in the journey toward justice and equality. • This weekend, as we celebrate the amazing fathers out there, let's also shine a light on Men's Health Week. Did you know that men are often less likely to seek help for their mental health? A recent survey of 1600 American fathers found that only 56% feel comfortable expressing their feelings. Dads, remember that the best way to take care of your family is to take care of yourself. Asking for help and talking about what you're going through is a sign of strength. By prioritizing your own mental health needs, you are taking a brave and necessary step towards a healthier, happier life for you and your family. • Today is National Senior Health and Fitness Day! When we think about aging seniors the first thing to come to mind is often physical health and exercise. All of us at CHP would like to remind you that overall health often starts with our mental health, and this is even more important as we age. Take some time out of the day to de-stress and relax your mind so that your physical body can stay in peak condition. Online apps can help you to schedule this time into your day. AARP covers today's most popular apps for relaxing and meditation. Check it out at Top Meditation Apps for Relaxation and Stress Relief (aarp.org)

  • On International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, let's raise our voices for justice! As we come together in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies worldwide, let's demand accountability and action to address systemic discrimination and injustice. By challenging harmful stereotypes and amplifying marginalized voices, we can create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, and where access to justice is universal. Together, let's build a future where fairness, dignity, and respect are the cornerstones of society. #JusticeForAll #IDAHOBIT #may17 #IDAHOBIT2024
