Continued funding for California's Specialty Dental Clinic Grant program was approved as part of this year's final state budget agreement. Awarded funds can be used to build and expand dental facilities for patients with special health care needs. Although the application process has closed, review of applications will begin, and dentists who have already applied may have an opportunity to amend their applications. "Dental funding has not always fared well during budget deficits, so it is no small matter when it is protected,” said CDA President Carliza Marcos, DDS. Get the details. https://hubs.ly/Q02GdqLF0

Congratulations to Mary A. Bush, DDS, forensic dentist and associate professor of restorative dentistry at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, whose research will be included in the yearlong “Forensic Science on Trial” exhibition at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. Dr. Bush has dedicated more than a decade of her career to refuting that bitemarks evidence can determine a suspect's guilt. In a commentary published in the CDA Journal collection "Forensic Odontology and Bite Mark Analysis: Understanding the Debate" she and her co-authors explore the emergence of bitemark analysis to the legal system, how the legal, forensic odontology and scientific communities have responded and the possible path forward. Check out the collection to learn more about the debate over bite mark analysis. https://lnkd.in/gFUvXHdq
