"To my parents thank you for your support over the past 6 years. I’m so privileged to have a family that values education so highly and allowed me to pursue my dreams halfway across the world. To my roomies, thank you for making lemonade out of lemons with me. Thank you for encouraging my baking > studying mindset. You are my sunshines ☀️. To Joe, thank you for kicking my butt into gear when I was baking instead of studying. Thank you for telling me not to get my own dog in med school… can we get a dog now? To everyone that made the past 6/5/4 years an absolute joy, thank you too. Catch ya on the flip, and see you soon!" Repost Meg (@meg.gipson), RCSI 🩺

"Our next Match Day 2024 student testimonial is by Eric ✨ Name: Eric Schwender Where are you from? Bowling Green, KY, USA Where have you matched? Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. What speciality have you matched to? Internal Medicine with goal of Heme-Onc Fellowship How are you feeling? For context, it is a little over a month since match day. I got one of my top choices and on match day did not feel much. There was so much buildup just for an email to tell you what job you got. However, every day that has gone by I have gotten more and more excited. You get to know the program a bit better and start slowly connecting with your future co-residents. I could not be more excited to get out there and go to work. Did you get the match you hoped for? 100% but I have to admit I was not super familiar with the program until I interviewed there. I felt I immediately clicked in the interview with the staff who got straight to the point, asked me my career goals, and highlighted how they could fit into that and how I could contribute to their culture. Any advice to students looking to match back? 1. When entering medical school, take the STEP exams very seriously. They are doable, but you need to plan in advance. I took the time needed to have an excellent STEP 1 prep even though it is pass/fail, which gave me the base to get a 268 on STEP 2. A good STEP 2 score goes a long way. 2. Make sure your application and personal statement represent you. The interviewer already decided they want you. They want to talk to you to see if you resemble your application. 3. Get the electives. If you take STEP exams on time you will get one most likely through RCSI. You will need at least one more, but ideally two more. Use connections, alumni, VSLO, any way you can. 4. I have a primary authorship publication where I presented a poster at the American Rheumatology Conference. It was not asked about in my interviews once. I wrote for a hobby that I like to read non-fiction. In 11 interviews, I was asked for a book recommendation seven times. The things that show your personality can be just as important as the accomplishments and sometimes more important." Repost @rcsi_studentlife
