Fighting childhood cancer, one cup at a time.
About us
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada raising more than $250 million so far, funding over 1,000 research projects and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer. This week's featured hero is Maggie Gaal! Maggie is the definition of a survivor. At 9 years old, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her left tibia. Over the next ten months, Maggie would courageously endure 153 overnights in the hospital, which included 18 chemotherapies, 8 infections, 11 surgeries and ultimately the amputation of her left leg below the knee. Today, Maggie is a full-time ALSF Special Events team member! She spoke at this year's Great Chefs Event Philadelphia to share the success of her lemonade stands growing up, and being 17 years cancer-free! Check out the video of Maggie's speech here: https://lnkd.in/evTcSdBx Read more about her inspiring story here: https://lnkd.in/e2UngDR2 #SarcomaAwarenessMonth

For #SocialMediaGivingDay, please consider donating to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in honor of #SarcomaAwarenessMonth >> https://lnkd.in/eziCSJcp Sarcomas make up 15% of all childhood cancer diagnoses, arise from the connective tissue in the body, and can be difficult to treat. ALSF is committed to funding research so that all kids, including those diagnosed with sarcomas, will have a cure

Angela lost her son, Willie, just 10 weeks after he was diagnosed with nut carcinoma. Last year, she learned that ALSF has dedicated a grant to studying the same rare cancer that her son had. Angela and her husband were immediately inspired to become monthly donors to the One Cup At A Time Club in Willie's memory to provide hope that someday, families will have access to a cure for their child even after a rare cancer diagnosis. Share this graphic on Chronic Disease Day to stand with those who face long-term health challenges every day. Children who were treated for cancer are twice as likely to suffer chronic health conditions later in life compared to children without a history of cancer.
