How many times have I seen people migrating monolithic and archaic applications to find themselves stranded in The Cloud without benefiting from any of these features and with a more expensive infrastructure to maintain. Worst of all, without any chance to "rollback" to a Data Center" because these "features" have crippled the ability to re-instate legacy solutions. Please, do not let these fancy "features" to blur your assessment on should you move now or change partially now and be ready to diversify your investment until you are ready to cut the umbilical cord.

Efficiency can only come with efficient workflows. If your application and operational processes are mediocre you will continue to have mediocre outcomes. Many of these processes are based on technical solutions that are still clinging to life by conditioning you to drag them from the Data Center to The Cloud. Please, try to avoid doing that. It's hard to give up what you know but some times what you know does not apply in The Cloud so you must embrace Cloud-centric/native solutions. They might be different but they are built for a different type of workflows and processes. None of this will make any difference if your application is not adapted to these Cloud environments.

You can only be as secured as you are willing to pay for your security. You need to address security practices from the ground up. If your processes are based on flat/un-encrypted files stored in version control systems or someone's personal blackbox secrets that are shared among "buddies" without truly understanding how to make your application aware of these strategies to extract secured data from encrypted storage mechanisms, your security is a joke like if you do not have one. In order to have a strong security, all involved parties must be truly removed from it and let automated processes to handle these requests. If you have a process where someone (a person) has to intervene and manually inject data, you have nothing secured.

Show them what is possible and what we can achieve , cloud is tricky for it could easily trap people in with dependencies and cost traps . You will need to show them for them to believe , do a proof of concept and make sure your hypothesis is valid and show how you plan to scale

The Cloud is not the right place if you migrate everything and then you try to figure out on the go. That's an irresponsible approach. For a healthy Cloud adoption, the only real solution (expensive but safe) is to perform controlled migration and decommissioning of features in your application. The operational cost of doing this will speak for itself once the migration has passed the 60% of its volume and a drastic drop in cost will be visible. Until then, the cost will be close to double but the operation safety margins will be visible at all stages. This is the key factor here and not how much money will be saved. Focus on functionalities and not savings because diversification has a cost but a great reward to be obtained.
