In my experience, it is helpful to translate your CAD into physical examples of mechanisms and design ideas. Screenshots and 3-D models are all well and nice, but showing the confidence of having a physical model that someone can tangibly interact with allows for your client or boss to have a firmer understanding of your abilities by what you are able to demonstrate to them in the real world.

In order to be able to handle complex problems, you must have conquered smaller problems thus it is paramount you work on solving smaller problems and make it known to your boss and others. This can instil in them the mindset that you can handle similar projects or even more complex projects. When faced with complex task, break it down into smaller tasks, share your progress & possible blocker with your boss and others. With this you can have ideas from anyone. Do not try to work in isolation.
