This is a must read for anyone with severe mental illness in their families. I could relate to how her siblings and parents interacted with the bouts of depression and bipolar in each other, as well as descriptions of the people she interviewed while covering mental illness for her newspaper. Some take aways: only 4% of the world's health research funding is for bipolar illness; suicides are up 35% since 1997 in the US but not in other developed nations; when dealing with people having an episode do so with love and compassion, all the while playing zone defense. I'd give this book 10 stars if I could, and make it required reading for my entire family!
