This is one of those novels I have a love/hate relationship with. Fitzgerald's writing is superlative, no one has a better hand for prose than he does. The novel itself is incredibly well-constructed and communicates many ideas that will resonate with its audience.
Unfortunately, I dislike the tragic element of the storyline and I find virtually all the characters unsympathetic. For me, reading Gatsby is like reading the worst story imaginable in the best possible writing.
I think everyone should check out "Gatsby" at least once in their lives so they have a clear understanding of what great writing is.
