Audiobook: I very much dislike the audiobook narrator. Specially because of the meak female voices he always gives to the female leads in this series. It infuriates me how weak and clueless they sound. But also because he whispers every time the characters have some internal dialogue, which I find intensely annoying and it pulls me out of the story every time. A really strange and unfortunate choice on the narrator’s part.

I didn't enjoyed this book. I wasn't interested in the romance part of this story because first, part of it happened in the previos book and by now I I didn't enjoyed this book. I wasn't interested in the romance part of this story because first, part of it happened in the previos book and by now I don't remember, and second, because it was absurd to me and I have no patience for irrationalities, I very much disliked the characters for the same reasons. Added to this, I was very disappointed by the smut aspect of the story, at how civilized the ménage was, very tame and tentative, not exciting at all and excessively polite. Couple with an irrational hypocritical almost nun and a repressed irrational fool who one second is immovable in his values just because and the next changes his mind also just because, and I couldn’t connect or care for anything. Furthermore, I have always disliked the topics of values and morals that stand over peoples lives and happiness without any actual reason given to validate them, support them or understand them. Values and moras that are simply there as inmovible things that just are with no reason and must be followed at all costs and sacrifices, it is brainwashing and I can't connect or care for that, much less respect it.
On a positive note, like always, there is great imagination in the world building aspect of the series. I have always enjoyed it and the author keeps it up even after 10 installments. I really take pleasure in thous little things, and it is the main thing that keeps me hooked to this series.

The first half of the book I found boring and too stupid at times, way too cheese for my taste too. I almost Did Not Finish the book after reading about 25 to 35% of it. In fact, I completely forgot I was reading it for nearly a month. Once I went back to it and got past that first half, it changed, it became very interesting and I got really into it, so I finished it quickly. Then again, the last part of the book I didn't enjoy much, once more, it was too silly and cheese, but that I already expected because that has been a constant thing with me while reading this writer's books, so nothing new there.
Anyway, I will move on to the next installment eventually, like I always do, I can't help myself.

This particular book has two different narrations: The first story is extraordinarily bland and foolish. The second one goes much further than that, right into preposterous territory, while the romantic relationship part is simpleminded and outrageous. I don't want to get too much into it, but there was non-consensual sex and unhealthy controlling behavior right out of the bat.
To summarize the romantic relationships, both stories go like this: Her: Hi, nice to meet you. Him:Hi, you are mine, marry me now and lets have babies now. Her: I love you so much, yes!
I really liked this book, I think is one of the best of the series so far, for me. I do admit that here, I had to consciously heavily apply willing suspension of disbelieve, otherwise my logic wouldn't have let me believe the driving obstacle between the couple and I wouldn't have been able to enjoy the story. Luckily, I was able to put my critical thinking aside for a bit and enjoy this romance.

The world building is great. The length of this romance is almost like two books, so the story is quite rich. The main heroine is not absurd and annoying like in the first installment. The side characters and parallel stories are interesting. The whole thing was quite entertaining, so to my surprise, I enjoyed it a lot.
I would say that my only problem is that the mentality of the women and man here are, to me, old fashion, but other than that, it was a great read. After all, that kind of old mind-set is to be expected in romances, I just hope this kind of plague ends soon because it has started to bother me more and more lately in the books I read, to the point that is now crippling my enjoyment.
Anyway, I am glad I decided to give this series another chance. I'll move on to the next installment. Now, I am very curious about the Twins situation (book 3) and about Xairn's story (book 4).

I see how this book can be liked by so many people. However, for me it wasn’t there. The whole thing was too silly and irrational for my taste.
Olivia’s struggles were ridiculous. She was fighting something with reasons that had no fundaments and were illogical. She had no idea of anything and refused to inform herself on anything but she felt justified on her behavior. Since her reasoning lacked sense, I couldn’t care much for her or what was happening to her. She became annoying and absurd to me so, the whole time I had a feeling of randomness and thus, of pointlessness.
Baird has an incredible lack of character development. The whole book is filled with general and unimportant details and yet we get no depth on what actually matters, the main characters. I have no problem with all that extra information because it makes the world a bit richer, but is worthless with empty characters.
The conflict at the end seems like an afterthought. Not well though or develop at all, just put there as a completely random breaking point so Olivia could have a radical change of mind. Just absurd.
The romance was not romantic, meaningful or justified. It is an instant-love situation that has no explanation. He loves her just because she is her mate even though he doesn’t really know her (the shared dreaming is not enough), and she suddenly realizes she loves him, but I don’t know why or how that happened. So the romance was also a fail for me.
Then, I have to say that I found the sex scenes very mediocre, so...
The parts I enjoyed the most were the world building aspects, and although it seems promising for future installments of this series , it is not enough to sustain this book. Since I didn’t care much for the characters and their story, the book ended up being too long for me and yet, almost empty.
To conclude, I’ll admit that I am curious about the Twins situation. I might read another installment with Twin Kindreds as main characters.
